Sixty-seven years ago this year
the people of Ballylinan joined together in what was an enormous undertaking
- to build a new school to serve the children of the area. It was a challenge,
which must have demanded a large commitment in terms of time and effort. The
organisation of the carnivals of 1935, '37 and '39 to help to offset the cost
of the building indicates to us the industriousness and dedication of the
people of the time - qualities which are still evident in the community today.
However the construction of this impressive building was only the beginning.
Over the last 67 years the commitment of management, dedication of teachers,
and support of parents has brought us to where we are today. No doubt as you
walk through the school it will bring back many memories, mostly happy but
perhaps some sad ones as well. Let us hope that future generations will continue
to look back and appreciate the work done by those who have gone before them.
In preparing for today much research has been done into the history of the
" old " and " new " schools in Ballylinan. A great store
of information has been gathered on paper, video, photograph, computer and
also this website, which will now be available for the future pupils going
through the school.
A warm welcome to all who visit us today, especially those returning to the
area. We hope the day will help you to renew old friendships, share memories
of times past, and establish bonds which will last long into the future .
