No Luck for Ballymacelligott at Munster Open
Maria Daly won her quarterfinal game on Saturday to reach the semi final of the girls 17 and under at the 40 x 20 Munster open. Maria beat her opponent Joy Smith 21/10, 21/12.
Maria went on to beat Sinéad Tevlin in the semi final 21/3, 21/4. Patricia Doyle from Wicklow was her opponent in the final and Patricia won 21/15, 21/18.
Also playing Saturday were Jamie and Clive Counihan of Ballymacelligott. Both players defeated Denis Buckley and Michael Linehan (Cork) in the first round 21/18, 15/21 and 11/9. They then went on to play and be defeated by Kerry Hennessy & Paul Heatherman (Limerick) 21/11, 21/5.
Eileen Twomey Tournament.
Ballymacelligott ran their annual tournament for juvenile girls yesterday. Players from Tralee, Ballymacelligott and Ballina Co. Tipperary attended. All the players were seeded and all the teams included as far as possible players from each club. It proved to be a very successful day.
The winners were:
U12: Captain Laura Higgins of Tralee and Sharon Twomey , Ballymacelligott, Lisa Falvey, Ballymacelligott and Maeve Prendiville Ballymacelligott.
U13: Captain Lee Ann McDaid of Ballina and Karen Lawlor, Tralee. Niamh Moriarty, Tralee and Natasha Moroney of Ballina.
U16: Captain Karen Collins of Ballina and Sandy McSwiney of Ballymacelligott Hannnah Simmons, Ballina and Ann Marie Ryan of Ballina.
Cumann Na mBunscoil Trials.
Trials were held for a 40 x 20 County Team to represent Kerry in Cumann Na mBunscoil yesterday (Sunday) Munster Championships. The trials were held at the Sports Complex Tralee. Children from schools in Glenbeigh, Ballymacelligott and Tralee went forward for the trials. The team will play the first match next Sunday 19th November at a Waterford venue. The team chosen is as follows:
