Ballymun Adult Reading and Writing Scheme

Boys' Comprehensive School - Ballymun
Family Resource Centre - Geraldstown House - Ballymun Cross

About the
Scheme

The Ballumun Adult Reading and Writing Scheme was established in 1986 to provide adult literacy and basic education tuition through a partnership between volunteers, community organisations and statutory bodies working in the area.  The scheme is currently catering for over two hundred students and providing support for 45 tutors.  As well as providing tuition, the scheme is engaged in raising awareness of literacy difficulties, providing advice and training for local groups, running training workshops and seminars for tutors and students, identifying and utilising progression routes for students and providing a mentoring service for adults entering adult education.

Every student receives a personal consultation on enrolment.  Goals are set and reviewed; there are no tests.
