Coisithe - Infantry

B-Company.

B-Company 7 Infantry Battalion came into existence in 1959; but there has been a military unit based in Swords since the North County Dublin Volunteer Battalion which was formed in 1913. This also had companies in St Margaret's, Skerries and Lusk. The Swords unit was part of the 5 Bn. Second Brigade. Under the command of Thomas Ashe and Richard Mulcahy (Later Chief of Staff of the Free State Army), the unit carried out the ambush of 75 RIC men outside Ashbourne on Easter week in 1916.

The Unit, as it is now, Originated as the North County Dublin Battalion of the LDF in 1946, with centres in Artane, Balbriggan, Celbridge, Swords and Howth.
When FCA units were downsized on integration with the PDF (Permanent Defence Forces) in 1959 the Fingal companies were integrated into one; B Company 7th Infantry Battalion which had centres in Artane, Howth and Swords and was part of the 2nd Brigade.

In 1969 The Units Centre's in Swords Artane and Howth were closed due to the breakout of trouble in Northern Ireland. The Unit set up home in McKee Barracks where it would stay for 10 years until De-integration in 1979, when it returned to Swords. Since then on Annual training In Gormanston, Kilworth, The Glen of Imaal, Monaghan and Tralee, The unit has strived to raise the standards of training within itself and the Reserve Defence Forces. As The RDF goes forward to a new age of Integration and modern equipment and training, B-Company along with the other four 7bn compaines remains one of the strongest units in the Reserve.
