Pat Nolan wins Best Soap Actor Award at the International Rose d'Or Festival

RTÉ Television is delighted to announce that Pat Nolan, who plays Barry O'Hanlon in Fair City, has won a Golden Rose Award, in the 'Best Soap Actor' category, at the international Rose d'Or Festival in Switzerland

Pat was presented with the award at a gala awards ceremony in Lucerne.

Executive Producer of Fair City, Niall Mathews, said,
"We are delighted that Pat Nolan and the programme have been honoured by the prestigious Rose d'Or festival. It is particularly appropriate that the award should go to Pat, who has been with the series since it's inception. He has been involved over the years in some of Fair City's strongest storylines and continues, through his dedication, acting ability, and talent, to promote and enhance the overall production values of the series."

This is the 45th year of the Rose d'Or festival which celebrates the best in international television with entries from broadcasters and production companies throughout the world.

Fair City was also nominated for the Best Soap award and RTÉ's Close Encounters with Keith Barry was nominated for the Best Variety Show.

Pat has been with Fair City since it started in 1989 and is one the five original cast members.

Over the years, Pat has endeared himself to Fair City fans as the dedicated school principal, Barry O'Hanlon.

Over the past year his world has fallen apart, however. He lost his job and the woman he loved, and suffered a breakdown as a result.

Shortly after his release from hospital, he was arrested under suspicion of murder.
