23/1/00 Hillwalk to Killarney

The Venturer troop assembled at the scout hall at 10 o'clock. It was a cold morning so everyone made sure they were well wrapped up for the day ahead.

We arrived at Kate Kearney's Cottage at the foot of the Gap of Dunloe at about 11.00. After a quick cup of tea the troop decided to start climbing and we soon were on our way. The weater was at this stage quite warm so most people ended up waring just a jumper for the majority of the ascend. As we got nearer the summit it did however get colder and most were forced to put an an extra jumper or jacket.

The peak of Tommies mountain was reached at about 1.30 and we were all glad to open up the bags and take out our lunches. A trangia was also set up and sausages were cooked by some.

After lunch some of the group headed towards another peak but because of time constraints we had to head back up to the peak of Tommies Mountain where we were joined shortly afterwards by Mark and Kevin who had set off behind us.

A short break was followed by the now enlarged group heading down the mountain. When we arrived back at Kate Kearney's Cottege we quickly changed into cleaner clothes and had dinner in the cottage.

We arrived back in Cork at about 9 o'clock all tired after a long and enjoyable day.
