About Killarney

The combination of lakes, mountains and woodland makes Killarney unique. The visitor is spoilt for choice here as there is something in Killarney for everybody's interests, including golfing, touring, site seeing, and other outdoor activities.

About Killarney

One of Killarney's biggest attractions is Muckross House and Gardens - a magnificent Victorian Mansion set in beautiful gardens making it a magical setting with the Killarney lakes and mountains surrounding it. The house is set in the middle of the National Park and you can tour the area on traditional jaunting car, bike or by foot. Nearby witness the lifestyles and farming traditions of a rural working community in the 1930s carrying out their daily tasks in the Muckross Traditional Farms.

Experience the best of ancient castles and abbeys, gushing cascades, rugged hills, and sparkling lakes. Travel through the Gap of Dunloe, by the famous Kate Kearneys Cottage, past Echo Lake, arriving at Lord Brandon's former Cottage.

Complete the journey by traditional open boat, through the Long Range to the Meeting of the Waters. Here shoot the rapids and onto the Lower Lake and Ross Castle.

Ross Castle is the ideal gateway to the lakes for boating, cruising or fishing for trout and salmon. You can also take a guided tour of this historical 17th century Castle.Nature lovers will enjoy the historical Knockreer House and Gardens for its beautiful fauna and flora, a short stroll from the Cathedral in Killarney.
Angle on the Lakes

Great news for anglers! A survey of Lough Léin has shown it to be the best-stocked brown-trout lake in the country. But the king of the Killarney fish must be the salmon. From late winter, anglers in small boats patiently ply the bays in hope of the ultimate prize. In bygone days visitors enjoyed salmon roasted on fresh-cut arbutus twigs over an open fire on the lakeshore. Today in many of Killarney's excellent restaurants, you can enjoy salmon fresh from the lakes.
