In
order to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Comhaltas, the branch decided to
record a CD entitled 'FOINSE'.
The name means source and
this depicts the way in which all of our musicians developed from beginners to
highly accomplished entertainers.
The Grupai Cheoil and Céilí band
names were carefully chosen to
reflect the unique history and folklore of each area.
A total of 195 musicians - (Click here
for names of all musicians in CD) ranging in age from 7 years upwards –
participated in this project.
The resultant compilation includes 9 Grupai Cheoil, 5 Céilí Bands and
6 individual performers.
The
CD was recorded and produced at the Irish World
Music Centre studios at the
University of Limerick, under the expert direction of Niall
Keegan and with the support of its director Professor
Micheál O’Súilleabháin.
We are deeply indebted to Niall and his colleagues for their
contribution, dedication and patience over many weekends of recording and
mastering.
The duplication was done locally by DUTEC Ltd., Dock Road, Limerick.
Finally, the CD cover was designed by one of our younger members as a result of an art competition. The sleeve bears the name of each musician that participated for posterity. All are congratulated on the manner in which they contributed to and displayed their special talents in making this project an undoubted success.
The CD Was Offically Launched on December 19th 2001click here for more info on Launch night
