Text Production

Basic keyboard training using correct finger technique on electronic typewriters.
Students may reach speeds of 35-50wpm. Training in the layout of documents
in business and legal work is given,e.g.Reports, Letters, Minutes of a Meeting.

Information and Administration

Students are trained to carry out routine office tasks e.g. dealing with the post,
telecommunications work, filing and dealing with clients. The role of financial agencies,
post office and information agencies in the processing of office information is also investigated.

Bookkeeping

Training in the maintenance of Books of First Entry, Ledgers, Final Accounts and
Bank Records. Practical work also involves cash flow forecasts, payroll and VAT documentation.

Audio-Transcription

Intensive work using audio equipment covering commercial, legal and banking terminology.

Word Processing and Computer Applications

Hands on experience of using word processing, spreadsheet, database and graphics packages.
Students are also taught the theory and terms associated with each of these.

A short course on the use of the Internet and E-mail is also given.

Communications

Business and creative writing skills. Students must present an oral presentation of their work.
An Information Technology section covers the use of computers in the workplace.

This module is taught by the Career Guidance Counsellor. Preparation for Work,
Practical Work Experience and Evaluation of Work Experience are covered.

Business Law

Sections of law that are necessary to the business world are taught in this module
.e.g. Data Protection Act, Consumer Law, Industrial Relations Law. The section on
the work of the court system in Ireland includes a trip to the District Court.

Tourism Awareness

Marketing of local tourist areas and preparing students for work in the tourist industry.
Students undertake trips to tourist areas and prepare a project on a tourist amenity.

Business Calculations

To Top of Page

Practical Business Maths problems and household finances are part of this module.
An essential skill for everyone.
