Personnel provides a service to all the departments within a business

They are involved in developing and maintaining employment policy,

employee welfare, industrial relations, and remuneration policies.

Man power planning

This is a compulsory process within a business which ensures that

their is fully competent and skilled workers in the business at all

times. The planning process involves :

(i) Recruitment, selection, and training

A combination of different processes such as aptitude tests and

interviews are used when recruiting staff. When staff are selected

induction courses should be arranged so new staff can familiarise

themselves with company policy. Also, training should be provided

when new procedures are implemented.

(ii) Management Development

It is important to have management training courses within a

business to ensure the management structure stays fresh and up to

date.

(iii) Redundancies and Retirements

Personnel devise packages for employees when they are leaving.

When doing this they must adhere to the minimum legal

requirements.

(iv) Performance Appraisal :

By complementing employees on good work done , employees

will be more motivated ,enthusiastic and confidant. This helps

personnel as they get better feedback from the employees on their

work and what could be done to improve their policies.

 

Industrial Relations

Should employees have a complaint about work , Personnel will

deal with it by consulting the various unions and the adjudicating

body.

 

 

 

Welfare

Personnel provide employees with different services such as : canteens

first aid , toilets etc. They ensure a safe and healthy workplace for all.

Remuneration :

Personnel ensure employees are paid fairly. This involves devising pay structures by assessing the employees position in the company,

level of skill, and their ability to do the job.
