The Blackbird
The Blackbird is one of our most familiar birds. It is a member of the thrush family. The male is black with a yellow beak. Female and young Blackbirds are brown. They often come into our gardens in search of worms or apples. The Irish name for the black is lon dubh. Their song is very rich and flutey. We often see a blackbird on the school pitch or in the Fairgreen.
