January 18 Bird of the week - Redwing

Turdus Iliacus

Deargán Sneachta

Redwings are a member of the thrush family which breeds in Scandinavia and migrates to Ireland in the winter, arriving in autumn to compete with our resident song thrushes, blackbird and mistle thrushes for berries. Redwings can be indentified by their bright white eyestrip and flash of red under their wings

A flock of Redwings was spotted last week on our School Pitch. We took some photos of the redwings with the digital camera but we had no zoom lens. We will try again this week. Colm in 6th class videoed the flock of Redwings
