Grey Wagtail

We saw a Grey Wagtail close to Steel's Rock on the river Fergus last week, when we were on our way to the library. Like Pied Wagtails, they constantly wave their tails up and down, mimicking the movement of water and making them difficult to pick out. Their backs are grey but underneath they show a bright yellow lemon colour. They nest close to streams and rivers. The call is a loud zeet-eet. Itfeeds on insects, mainly flies, which it catches by flying out from its perchto grab the insect with a flurry of wings and a spread tail showing clearly the white outer tail.
