Anam-Chara Records is an independent production company that has produced two recordings of Irish Harp music, "Strings for the Spirit" in 1994 and "The Celtic Christian Era in Poems, Song & Prayer" in 1998, and is operated by Mairéad Loughnane Doherty.

Recordings:

Strings For the Spirit is a hauntingly beautiful selection of Celtic airs and tunes -- some familiar, some not so familiar -- on the Irish Harp with violin accompaniment. Acoustically free of all electronic "enhancements", this recording is arranged to provide optimum relaxation to the listener.
Available on CD and Cassette.

The Celtic Christian Era in Poems, Song & Prayer. A profoundly spiritual experience awaits the listener of this recording. Spanning fifteen hundred years, the poems, songs and prayers accompanied by the strings of the Irish Harp lead you through the day beginning with the sounds of the cuckoo bird. Selections include excerpts from St. Patrick's writing, prayers credited to St. Columcille and St. Ciarán, poem/prayers from the Scottish Highland communities up to the nineteenth century and songs from the eighth to the twentieth centuries in English, Irish and Latin.
Available on CD and Cassette.

Some Reviews:

"...the CD is a far cry from the conventional jigs and reels and the Riverdance phenomenon. It combines music and spirituality with a strong Celtic coloration and is compellingly gentle to the ears and the inner person."
Bill O'Donnell - THE BOSTON IRISH REPORTER - May '98

"The technique of harpist Mairéad Doherty is assured and always fluid, always musical. Her strong playing provides support and continuity for the varied offerings. ... Narration by Timothy Joyce has a quiet, intense quality that is less performance, and more the sense of listening in on a monk at prayer. ... The listener comes away feeling he has been privileged to experience some of the essence of Celtic Christian prayer and song."
Tom Cashman - President - Anamchairde Network, USA
