ALERT STATUS
There are currently six different alerts that a starship can be operating
under. They include:
Green Alert isn't usually called Green Alert, for the simple fact that this is
the mode a ship almost always operates under. In this mode, all offensive and
defensive systems are powered down, and the crew isn't expecting anything
potentially dangerous to occur. A normal starship will spend about 95% of its
lifetime in Green Alert.
Yellow Alert:
Yellow Alert is what the ship goes to in a potentially dangerous situation.
Usually accompanied by the raising of the shields as a cautionary measure,
Yellow Alert is used when entering unstable areas of space or when confronted by
an unknown ship, or any other time caution is prudent.
Red Alert:
Red Alert signifies that the ship is in combat mode, shields up, and weapons
armed. Red Alert is used whenever facing an enemy vessel that has initiated
hostilities or is expected to do so at any moment. Red Alert may also be used in
dangerous conditions, including but not limited to spatial anomalies and other
possible problems. During Red Alert, all hands are expected to remain at combat
readiness, and civilians are required to stay out of the corridors. Damage
Control teams and Security detachments are on standby alert, in case the ship is
damaged or boarded. Red Alert conditions generally continue until the crisis is
over.
Intruder Alert:
This indicates that the ship has been boarded by hostile forces. All civilians
and off duty non-security crew are to remain in their quarters until the alert
is canceled. When this alert is first called, Security and the Marines go to
work immediately, to track down and contain the intruders.
Purple Alert:
This is the newest of the different types of alerts that can be called. It is
also a form of Intruder Alert. Purple Alert signifies that there is a confirmed
Changeling aboard somewhere on the ship. The Dominion is/was Starfleet's
greatest threat, and since Changelings are highly dangerous and adaptable, this
alert signals a VERY dangerous situation on the ship. The same rules apply here
as for an Intruder Alert, but Science and Engineering join the search too, using
the internal sensors. Purple Alert is less important now that the Dominion War
is over, but could still potentially be utilized if needed.
Blue Alert:
This alert indicates that the ship has taken on some sort of contaminant, either viral, bacterial, or other. Blue Alerts are only called for something highly dangerous, and as yet incurable. The Medical Staff are immediately put to work to attempt to find a cure, and other starships are warned away from the infected ship. In some cases, the ship may be ordered to report to a starbase if there is a Medical base nearby. Blue Alert continues until the contagion is confirmed to be eradicated. In the unfortunate circumstance that the crew isn't able to cure the problem in time to save themselves, the vessel is towed to the nearest system and is forced into a star, to eliminate the contagion.
