HERE I STAND
Here I Stand
A member of a proud fleet.
My job is to serve, and to protect, those who are weak.
I serve with all my heart, in dedication, and somewhat in
love ... even though I know that it isn't real, I treat it as such.
I've given my time, for I am an officer.
My job is to mentor, touch, and to help.
Peace is my first priority and warfare is my last.
I never insult another member of this fleet, and I live by the Starfleet Code of Conduct.
And if I ever waver from these laws, I make up with increased
participation.
I am an officer!
It is my duty to walk in an upright manner, and to carry
myself with respect.
I am an officer!
My duty is to this fleet, and no other.
I serve with heart, mind, and soul.
I am an officer!
My weapons are not just my phaser, and the rifle variant, but
my gift of negotiation, taught by the dedication of the writers of the Articles
of Federation.
The Academy is where we learn, and the battlefield is where we die.
Though I may perish, this fleet, and its history should never
be lost.
Too many sacrifices were made to create this fleet, and it is
my duty, as yours, to make sure that it goes on.
I am an officer!
And, here I make my stand.
TO SERVE, PROTECT, AND TO MAKE THIS FLEET PROSPER.
Even through trials and tribulations, I will hold steadfast, and give this fleet
my all.
This poem "Here I Stand", willingly and graciously a forwarded by Lt. Kito Roman, Chief Engineering Officer, U.S.S. Cambrian, conveys exactly what it means to be a member of this fleet.
