Thursday, January 28, 1999 Frankie Kennedy Winter School - Aoife Ní Fhearraigh agus Deirdre Ní Bhraonáin The Irish Times reported earlier this month about THE traditional Irish music event of the year for northwest County Donegal, the Frankie Kennedy Winter School. The event brings together various traditional musicians in a series of sessions and concerts which take place from Dunlewey to Derrybeg in honor of the late Frankie Kennedy, who was a founding member of the group Altan. The event is organized by Mairéad Ní Mhaonaigh of Altan with active participation by the other members of this fine traditional group, and takes place each year during the days between Christmas and New Years. Many great traditional musicians braved the harsh winter conditions following the St. Stephen's Day storm to attend this year's event. Among them was singer Aoife Ní Fhearraigh, who was joined by none other than Deirdre Ní Bhraonáin. Deirdre, as we know, is a part time member of the group Clannad providing backing vocals.
