Clannad - Grammy Winners of the Best New Age Album for "Landmarks"
Clannad has won this year in the category
Best New Age Album for their
March 1998 release "Landmarks". The Best New Age Album Grammy was awarded
on Wednesday afternoon, February 24th, and covered by the
official Grammy Awards web site (Grammy.com).
Ciarán Brennan, Noel and Padraig Duggan were at the Grammys to accept the award.
Máire Brennan couldn't attend since she was in concert in Dublin, Ireland that same night.
However, Ciarán Brennan and the Duggans were interviewed by
Grammy.com backstage after winning the award. You can
listen to the audio (RealAudio format)
or
watch the video (RealVideo format)
of the backstage interview.
Ciarán said that he didn't expect to win the award
after being passed up twice before. He was also asked if Clannad considers
itself 'New Age'. He said no. He said that he would consider his sister, Enya,
in the 'New Age' category. He said he would classify Clannad as being "Old Age"
instead (jokingly, of course)! However, Noel said it was a great honor winning
the award this year, and coming from a small nation, Ireland, they are indeed very
proud.
The main ceremony held in Los Angeles was broadcast by the
CBS television network in the U.S.
On-line, the
official Grammy Awards web site
provided extensive coverage and webcasting. Be sure to visit the
Grammy.com site for additional information
on the Grammy Awards.
