Yet More Clannad Best Of Collections and Details on a CD Single -
"Magic Elements - The Best Of Clannad" (Issued August 1998),
      "Clannad: The Collection" (Re-issued),
Plus More Information on "Christmas Angels"

Jörg Kubitza from Germany informs us of yet another Clannad Best Of Collection CD called "Magic Elements". The tracks on this CD are from 1982-1998 with many of Clannad's 'softer songs' included. Ed Plekkenpol from the Netherlands points out the release date for this CD was around July or August 1998.

Jörg describes the CD artwork, "The cover shows a sort of mystical picture, an imaginative subject. Inside the booklet there is a picture of Clannad in (the woods) where Máire wears a long, white dress with a rather plunging neckline. It looks nice."

However Jörg Kubitza points out a flaw, "...there is a big mistake in the information of the CD insert. There is actually written: 'Die eingeheiratete Sängerin Máire Brennan kam 1976 dazu.' (which) means the singer Máire Brennan who was married into the group joined in 1976." (Clannad fans will know that Máire Brennan did not 'marry into the group'. She is, of course, the sister of Ciaran Brennan and the Duggans are Ciaran and Máire's uncles.)

Here is the track list of "Magic Elements - The Best Of Clannad":

      Theme From Harry's Game
      Newgrange
      Caisleán Óir
A Bridge (That Carries Us Over)
      Something To Believe In
      Seanchas
      Closer To Your Heart
      Let Me See
      I Will Find You
      Robin (The Hooded Man)
      Rí Na Cruinne
      There For You
      In A Lifetime
      The Other Side
      Fadó
      Loch Na Caillí

This compilation (is available on) BMG Ariola Hamburg GmbH, 1998. (c) 1998 BMG Entertainment International UK & Ireland Ltd. The CD number is 74321 62182 2.

Jörg Kubitza provides more information on a re-issue, "There was a re-release of Clannad's 'The Collection' as picture disc in K-Tel's series 'Celtic Collections'. I have another version of that picture disc with some other tracks. The second CD is also part of the 'Celtic Collections' series. It is called 'Clannad' and 'The Celtic Voice'. The CD number is 62742. (P) & (C) 1997 Celtic Collections Ltd. 30-32 Sir John Rogerson's Quay, Dublin 2, Ireland."

The tracks on the re-issued CD according to Jörg are:

      Dúlamán (Seaweed)
Éirigh Suas A Stóirín (Rise Up My Love)
      By Chance It Was
      Fairly Shot Of Her
      Rince Briotánach (Brittany Dance)
      Eleanor Plunkett
Teidhir Abhaile Riú (Come Back Honey)
dTigeas A Damhsa (Children's Dance Song)
      Siúil A Rún
      Two Sisters
      Mon Mháire
Éirigh Is Cuir Ort Do Chuid Éadaigh (Arise And Dress Yourself)
Coinleach Ghlas an Fhómair (The Autumn Stubble)
Cucanandy / The Jug of Brown Ale

Lastly, Jörg provides us details on a rare CD single originally released in October 1997 (also available on a charity compilation CD "Forgotten Angels" released in October 1998), "I have a CD single called 'Christmas Angels'. The second track on that picture disc is 'A Bridge (That Carries Us Over)'. The CD is (P) BMG Entertainment International UK & Ireland Ltd. 1997 and has the number 74321 55387 2."

Ed Plekkenpol points out one of the few places where this CD single can still be ordered, "The single can still be ordered at Cheap Or What (COW cd's) at http://www.cow.co.uk/"

David McKinlay tells us that another source for the "Christmas Angels" CD is the Interactive Music Video Shop at "http://www.imvs.co.uk".

Thanks go to Jörg Kubitza for passing along the above information and to Ed Plekkenpol and David McKinlay for updating us.
