Monday, July 12, 1999 ![]() A companion book to the CD compilation and video/DVD from Putumayo World Music and a documentary film produced by Hallway Entertainment and broadcast on the CBC and Bravo television networks, all with the same title, "Celtic Tides", has been published by Quarry Music Books. The author is Martin Melhuish. Interviews with Máire Brennan and Enya are scattered throughout the book which is filled with interviews of other Celtic musicians, a discography of Celtic music, guides to Celtic music festivals, and photographs of popular musicians in Celtic music. Máire Brennan talks about her early days in the group Clannad. However, the interview with Máire seems to have been done a couple of years ago. So does the interview segments with Enya which are actually taken directly from an Enya television special in 1996 done for the VH-1 televsion network. However, the discography in the book for Clannad, Máire Brennan, and Enya are fairly up to date. As for the rest of the book, it seems fairly comprehensive, especially the section on musicians from Cape Breton, Canada (which tend to be ignored in other publications), and the discography section is surprisingly, fairly comprehensive for other artists too. A section of the book is devoted to color photographs of the most popular Celtic musicians. It is a soft cover book of 237 pages, ISBN 1-55082-205-5, originally published in 1998, but made available in the U.S. since February. ![]() ![]() ![]() Full Page Color Pictures of Máire Brennan and Enya which appear in the book, "Celtic Tides". | ![]() |
