Lectio Divina (Sacred Reading) each Monday during Advent in Edmund Rice Centre at 8pm. This sharing of Scripture is a means of descending to the level of the heart and finding God. The focus in on the Gospel of the approaching Sunday. The week is then spent reflecting on that particular passage of Scripture. Open to all.

FAST FOR PEACE ON FRIDAY NEXT (DEC 14)

Pope John Paul has called on Catholics to fast next Friday – the final Friday of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan. He urged people to give the money they save to those suffering the consequences of terrorism and war.

BAPTISM IN OUR PARISH

To assist parents who wish to have their child baptised a pre-baptism team has been formed in the Parish consisting of the Priests of the Parish, Lynda Nelson and Sr. Genevieve.

To enhance the community dimensions of the sacrament, Baptism will from next January on be celebrated on the 2nd and 4th of each month.

ST VINCENT DE PAUL COLLECTION:

The Society are holding their annual Church Gate Collection on the 8th and 9th of Dec in Kells and Girley. Once again we appeal to your generosity to assist those less fortunate, particularly at this festive time of year. Expenditure over the last year totalled £20,000. Cash assisted/ miscellaneous £5600, food £3800, clothing £3100, Fuel £5000, and education £3800. We thank all that supported and assisted the Conference in any way during last year.

PREPARATION FOR CHRISTMAS

There will be a common celebration of the Sacrament of Reconciliation on Tuesday evening next (Dec 18) at 8pm in Kells Church. Ten priests will be available. People are asked to be in the Church before 8pm.

Next Saturday the three priests of the Parish will be available at the usual times for Confession (10.30-11pm, 2-3, 7-8)

The First Mass for Christmas will be on Christmas Eve in Kells at 9pm (8pm in Girley)

MONTH’S MEMORY and FIRST ANNIVERSARY MASSES

To make it easier for parishioners to remember their loved ones on these occasions, the Sunday morning Masses at 8am, 9.30, and 11oc are being made available from January 2002.

Offering Day: Christmas Day is an Offering Day. Our volunteers will distribute WHITE envelopes to all the homes in the Parish. Or an ordinary envelope may be used.

Kells UDC invite all to their annual commemoration at the Pauper’s Cemetery at Loyd on Christmas Day at 12oc.

Euro Notice: From January 2002 our counting machines will be adjusted to handle the Euro.
