CEMETERY DRAW

The cost of seasonal maintenance for our Cemetery has passed the £15000. Most of this will go on wages, machinery purchase, skip and bin provision, water availability, insurance, etc. This year we will complete the laying of paths in the extended Sections, and perhaps consider the possibility of extra seats in the Cemetery.

The Cemetery Draw is our chief source of income to finance maintenance and capital projects. We urgently need promoters. This year we again propose 5 well-spaced Draws at £2 a Draw. The final Draw will be held in mid July so the holiday season will not be affected. Where possible, we strongly recommend subscribers to offer the full £10 to the promoter. Cards are available at the Parish Office (40213).

First Draw Thursday 4 March and subsequent Draws Wedns April 4, Wedns May 9, Wedns June 13 and Wedns July 18.

Trocaire has made an initial allocation of £100,000 to our partner CARITAS India, and has launched an appeal to the Irish public, to meet the urgent needs of hundreds of thousands of people displaced by an earthquake measuring 7.9 on Friday 26 January. An estimated 3000 people are dead and thousands are still missing. Trocaire is supporting Caritas India, who have developed a network of welfare structures such as health centres and clinics. Therefore the mechanisms for emergency relief distribution are in place. With the help of their medical staff and a huge network of volunteers the distribution of emergency relief has already started in the affected areas.

This week every home should receive a Trocaire Lenten Campaign Box. We ask you to contribute to the Box every week of Lent and the Boxes will be collected at the doors of the Church on Holy Thursday.
