STAINED GLASS WINDOWS IN KELLS CHURCH

The Parish Finance and Administration Committee along with representatives of the Pastoral Council and Liturgy Committee have met twice in the last month to see what should be done about the stained glass windows in the church in the light of the views of parishioners expressed in the recent survey.

Two firms were asked to inspect the windows.

The good news is that the windows are no longer in danger of falling out (as had been thought). We have also been told that the glass is unique as it is cast in glass known as Norman Slabs; each piece of glass in individually cast and is uneven in nature which produces the brilliance in colour.

However, as the windows are sagging and bulging in many places, some action is recommended to stop any further deterioration of the glasswork.

The meeting agreed that this should be done in conjunction with the painting and decoration of the Church recommended by parishioners.

Consideration was also given to the placing of a new Rose Window behind the altar. As this would involve work on the structure of the building, no decision was taken. The views of parishioners would be appreciated.

CHURCH CANDLE SHRINE

A new WALL SAFE for shrine offerings has been installed over the Candle Shrine. Donations for candles should be inserted in the WALL SAFE.

KELLS A SPECIAL TOWN

We all live in a very special town and it deserves to be looked after and cared for by us all.

The Chamber of Commerce in conjunction with the Tidy Towns Committee has initiated an Inter Street Competition, which will be judged weekly. Points will be added until the end of August when a ‘street of excellence’ plaque will be presented to the winning street.

Streets will be judged on 1. Absence of litter 2. Visual impact i.e. well maintained buildings, window boxes and hanging baskets.

We all have the privilege of living in this special heritage town so get your neighbours together and make your street the best street in Kells. Queries about the competition to Chamber of Commerce Office 40055, or Brian Curran, Castle St.
