MISSION SUNDAY – Oct 21 2001

Mission Sunday is important in the life of the Church. Mission cannot be left to a group of ‘specialists’. It is a matter for all Christians, dioceses, parishes, Church institutions and associations - to pray for and to encourage offerings for the missions’ (Pope John Paul).

Please return your Mission Sunday envelope. The Offertory Collection (plate) today in Kells and Girley will also be part of the Mission Sunday collection.

Trocaire Box– Special Collection for Afghanistan

Afghanistan to all intents and purposes, has always been at war; both parents and children in this unfortunate country have never experienced peace. Following the departure of the Russians who had invaded in 1979, civil war broke out. Millions of Afghanistan's continue to cross the border to Pakistan, where the relief agencies cannot cope in providing relief to those already there. There is no food, medicine, and toilet facilities. But most devastating of all - WINTER IS COMING. Temperatures can plummet to minus 50 degrees.

The Trocaire Box is located in the Parish Church beside the right hand door and we will forward the contents to Trocaire who will use the proceeds to provide food, medicine and clothing for the people of Afghanistan.

Roof Repairs:

Work on the new copper roof of our Parish Church is continuing. We thank the public for their co-operation.

Church Envelopes:

Each home should receive a box of Planned Giving Envelopes for the coming year and also a letter containing a ONCE OFF appeal envelope as explained last Sunday. A special word of thanks to the people who distribute.
