Keep It Simple!
When beginning your practice it is very important to keep it simple.
In this i mean don't be trying to do it all at once. Pick one Emotion to become acquainted with.
Learn to recognize various feelings oozing from within and notices the flow of thinking dictated by them.
Learn all there is to learn about the chosen emotion. Things like thoughts, feelings, time scale and intensity that drive the emotion. Learn that there is a larger field within all emotion, for example; Anger is the primary emotion, but how broad is anger, what is related to anger, Sub emotions such as aggravated, annoyed, defiant, disgusted and enraged are to name but a few, So now you see anger is a lot broader than just anger or being angry.
The same can be said about love. Love is just the primary emotion but again love is broad.
Example; Love also has sub emotions such as Affection
and affection includes the following sub emotions, fondness, attraction, adoration, sentimentality and caring.
Love also contains Lust, desire, passion, and obsession.
You see emotions are very broad and it would not be good practice to just except an emotion as just one word or feeling.
The practice is in becoming aware of all emotions through self education. This in turn may help when intense emotions occur and aid in quelling distorted thinking and not react impulsively on it. Negative impulsive reactions do more damage to the self as it can lead to regret, sorrow and shame, hence the cycle of negative self continues.
Also this type of Emotional awareness may aid in many aspects of your daily life. You may find yourself becoming less and less judgmental of others because you are starting to understand that we are all emotional beings. living with the same yet different problems, only now you have taken the step to become more self-aware, more spiritually connected, more emotional balanced within your own life. It is with this style of self education that understanding is born.
Remember! keep it simple. Simple is less confusing and more beneficial.
