TMBC finally pulls the plug on BLAST 25/03

After much controversy, the Temple Bar Music Centre in Dublin has refused to allow Treasure Island Records to stage BLAST. Following talks with Temple Bar Properties and the Gardai, Robert Stephenson, originator of the all-ages events, has announced a cessation at the venue.

Posting on the Treasure Island Forum, Stephenson said: "This decision of the TBMC has been brought about by the ongoing problems around temple bar that are well documented – mainly the behaviour of a small minority of people."

Quoting a previous post on the Forum, he went on: "Maybe its better Blast is kicked out of the music centre. Everyone there has given their opinion on what they want the TBMC to become. They've given it by thrashing the place, starting fights, bullying people and causing so much trouble extra Gardai have to patrol the place."

BLAST gigs are intended as all-ages events and are attended mostly by young teens and students. They are scheduled for the first and last Saturday afternoon of each month and have recently branched out into other centres around the country.

Speaking about alternative arrangements for the gigs, Rob Stephenson said: "The good news is that we can have the Ambassador instead - but BUT – only on condition that there is no moshing - yes one can pogo – jump up and down and have a great time – but NO moshing- so maybe that won't suit some of you. Also if there is a dirty mess and drink etc then they will cancel these gigs too."

CORRUPTED has played and headlined several BLAST events in Dublin and launched the "Feed on the Weak" CD there on March 2nd, 2002.

Band withdraws into period of intensive songwriting 2/1

CORRUPTED has announced a temporary moratorium on gigging as band members knuckle down to some serious songwriting at the start of 2002.

Speaking on the CORRUPTED Forum on January 2nd, 2002, guitarist D.G. said: "As far as gigs go, Corrupted will be takin' a break for the next few months in order to write some new and improved hefty tunes."

The self-imposed halt to live appearances comes after an intense year of gigging, which saw the band broaden its domestic audience and increase its hunger for wider success.

The news page has been told that work on a debut CORRUPTED album features large in their plans over the remaining winter months and into the spring. (Fans, of course, remain to hear the "Feed on the Weak" EP, recorded in July of 2001).

Shelter Success at Third Attempt 16/12
Dublin venue, The Shelter, was the scene of a healthy turnout this weekend when CORRUPTED, ATOMIC DROP and POPSTAR played an afternoon, all-ages gig. The other band billed to appear, PIN, was unable to attend.
The gig was the replacement for the cancelled December and November gigs that were due to be played there and an estimated 80 to 90 people braved the early afternoon chill to witness (and participate in) a rip-roaring feast of extreme musical talent.

CORRUPTED continues to attach great importance to the concept of the all-ages gig where a usually younger audience shows huge enthusiasm for the CORRUPTED sound.

Phantom FM DJ in praise of CORRUPTED16/12

Ray McGowan, presenter of the Phantom FM radio programme, "The Rockshow" was fullsome in his praise of the music at the Dec 15th '01 Shelter gig.

In an email sent to corrupted@eircom.net [contents used with permission], Ray said: "I think the Corrupted are one of the most exciting metal bands on the Dublin scene at the moment. Their cd "feed on the weak" is a very credible debut, which has a lot of energy and some classic riffs. That energy was translated into their show on saturday. I enjoyed it a lot."

Phantom can be found at 91.6 FM in most parts of the greater Dublin area.
