GLEN ROVERS 3-12   ST.FINBARRS 2-7
11th October.
With Christy Ring as captain the team had swept all aside and qualified to meet arch rivals St.Finbarrs in the final. Tremendous interest was evoked by the clash and an immense crowd attended.Over 24,000 people paid to attend the game, but once again many thousands flowed through a gate, which was forced open, to swell the attendance.

The Barrs were slight favourites as the Glen were short Denis O'Riordan, Francie O'Regan and Tom Corbett of the regular team but this only helped to whip up extra spirit and enthusiasm in the Glen team.

The "Cork Examiner" reported: "A team that looked well beaten in half a dozen vital outfield positions came out after the interval at the Cork Athletic Grounds and turned in a dazzling display that involved all fifteen men. A St.Finbarrs side which trailed by only a point at the break found themselves three goals down after eleven minutes and even their game eforts to make a comeback were not enough to prevent the Blackpool team from taking their 20th title and giving captain Christy Ring his thirteenth and last Cork Senior Hurling Medal.

The Barrs dictated the first half but their efforts were thwarted by some fantastic saves in goal and a full back line of Mick Lane, Leo Young and Sean Kennefick which played brilliantly. They refused to be panicked into mistakes and held the Barrs forwards in a vice like grip.Outside them Jerry O'Sullivan, Maurice Twomey and Mick McCarthy were also helping to stem the tide which seemed to be overwhelming the northsiders. However, they managed to keep the scores even and all through the first half points were exchanged evenly up to the last five minutes when the southsiders were two points clear but just before the interval came the goal which proved to be the turning point. Joe Salmon sent a long ball in towards Ring who in the twinkling of an eye had it resting in the net to give the Glen a lead of 1-4 to 0-6.

The second half took a dramatic turn right from the throw in, centre midfielders Joe Salmon and Jackie Daly began to get more possession to send the team attacking, Patsy Harte showed a clear pair of hels to the opposition and Dave Moore ran riot through the 'Barrs backs.John Young battled with inter-county star Peter Doolan and Bill Carroll was giving Denis Murphy his hardest hour in a battle of wits.At full-forward, inter-county minor Andrew Flynn was in rare form and following some spectaculer points from Patsy Harte and Christy Ring, he shook the net with a powerful drive to send the crowd wild with excitement. This was devastating hurling and a lesser team than the Barrs would have caved in under the the splendour of it all.A memorable goal by Dave Moore and magnificent points by Ring and Harte sent them back but still they continued to fight gamely and goals by Willie Doyle and Mossie Finn reduced the srrears but the Glen were playing like champions and points by Dave Moore and Christy Ring brought another glorious year to a conclusion.By winning, Christy Ring collected his 13th county medal and although now 44 years of age gave a display which was a treat to watch.
