As you become more in tune with the natural world, you find yourself becoming more in tune with its seasonal cycles.

Living close to the land with no immediate neighbours can be a very rewarding experience. The first Spring buds, the early morning dews, the first blackberries of autumn . . . and all witnessed without intrusion, except for maybe ours on hers.

The four fire festivals, the equinoxes and the solstices are very important celebrations for pagans, in both ancient and modern times, although these days it's more symbolic. Even if you do not follow the Pagan path, it is still nice to make a gesture to the earth at these times, even if only to light a candle.

The four season pictures were designed to become a set of greeting cards. They were very labour-intensive (each section of the inner wheel is hand dotted) and were not actually used as such for nearly six years.

The idea was to design a set of all occasion cards that without being too specific could be sent to celebrate birthdays as well as the Sabbats, so people can see which festivals their birthdays fall closest to.

When all four are fitted together they form a perpetual seasonal calendar. I have since designed a more in-depth calendar that is also featured on the site. It can be found at The Celtic Year
