Brigit, Goddess of all creative activity, rekindles the fire in the earth for the re-mergence of life at Imbolc. Brigit was pregnant with the seed of the Sun. She was ripe with the promise of new life. The seeds of the earth deep within its soil begin to awaken at this time, ripe with the promise of Spring and new life for the planet. Thus Imbolc was a time of awakening, promise and hope for the coming spring. The emphasis of this Fire festival is placed directly on the light from the flames more than the heat of the fire. It is seen as light piercing the dark, and the slow return of the sun. |
