Turf Cutting:
The cutting of the turf/peat begins in April.
Traditionally people cut the turf by using the turf spade, however in recent years machines have
become increasingly more popular. Harvesting the turf consists of 3 stages and all are dependent
on dry weather. The stages involved are: cutting, turning, rickling & stacking. Once
the turf are dry enough they are taken home and used as fuel for the fire.
