Needs Survey

The Eda, with assistance from representatives of some other clubs/organisations and individuals, and with the guidance of Facilitator, Colette Nulty, and with funding support from the Programme for Peace and Reconciliation, conducted a Household Survey during 2000. 339 houses were invited to fill in a Questionnaire and there was a 73% return.
The main recommendations from the survey were:

  • The setting up of an 'Umbrella Group' to broaden participation in community development and to encourage communication in the area.
  • A plan for the development of the Tourism Potential should be drawn up jointly by all organisations involved in tourist-type projects.
  • The EDA should continue to lobby for improvements and should get the support of other organisations in the community.
  • The Leisure Centre Committee needs to draw up an Operational Plan for the next 5 years.
  • Childcare Facilities and Womens' Groups are needed.
  • The EDA should continue to work with Monaghan Enterprise Board for the development of an Enterprise Centre.
  • More needs to be done to support the elderly.
Top priority should be given to setting up the Umbrella Group.
