Hypnotherapy

What is Hypnosis?

It is a state of guided relaxation and focused attention. In this state of heightened awareness positive suggestions easily and naturally achieve positive results and goals. It is a natural and non-addictive state. Hypnosis is not sleep but gives the feeling of deep relaxation whilst you, the client, remain totally aware of what is going on – this why it is called conscious Hypnosis. Most people comment “It didn’t work as I heard everything and I could have opened my eyes at any time but didn’t bother”.

Importantly, a client cannot be forced to do or say anything against their will because immediately that such an action was suggested, you would be shocked out of the hypnotic state – in other words, you have control.

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy uses the tool of hypnosis to quickly and effectively help clients overcome physical / emotional symptoms and habits. As above, hypnosis is a deeply relaxed state of being that can be used to contact an individual’s deeper mind (i.e. the Sub-conscious) such that the root cause of the problem can be uncovered. By uncovering the cause of the problem, the client is then in a position where he/she can evaluate the material for a rapid and permanent change. Hypnosis, it can be said, cuts through the inbuilt habits, strategies and inhibitions of the client, thus releasing deeply buried memories for evaluation and subsequent cure.

Types of Hypnotherapy

There are two types of therapy in conscious hypnosis. These being:

·        Suggestion Therapy

·        Hypno-Analytical Therapy

Suggestion Therapy

As the name implies, it uses the power of suggestion (which are implanted in the clients mind while in hypnosis) to help the client overcome some common habits such as smoking, nail-biting, exam stress, weight control and confidence boosting.

Generally, Suggestion Therapy can span from one to three sessions depending on the habit in question.

Hypno-Analytical Therapy

This type of therapy is used to discover the causes of more stubborn symptoms or problems some of which are listed below. It works by finding the root cause of the problem, which then relieves the client of his/her symptoms. This doctrine as espoused by the Institute of clinical Hypnotherapy & Psychotherapy is called ‘Cause and Effect’ – Analysis reveals the cause and consequently relieves the symptoms. The moment of liberating enlightenment may come anytime but usually around session six. Generally, Analytical Therapy lasts between six and eight sessions.
