Nolan
Tricia
has been involved in liturgical music for the last 16 years
both as a musician and a director of various groups and choirs.
She was first introduced to Knockadoon when she attended the
course as a member of the Dominican Council of Youth in 1992
and has been coming to Knockadoon every year since.
Tricia
was the National Co-ordinator of the Dominican Council of Youth
(DCY) from 1994 -1998 and was instrumental in setting up the
International Dominican Youth Movement, which is now present
in over 45 countries worldwide.
At
present she works as the Manager of Tallaght Volunteer Bureau
promoting, recruiting and supporting volunteers in the Tallaght
area.
As well as her fulltime work, Trica became part of the Knockadoon
course organising team in 1997 and is currently director of
the course. She has worked extensively giving workshops with
Fr. Donal Sweeney and also works closely with Ian Callanan.
She has also sang and played on many recordings including Light
the Fire (Liam Lawton), Winter
Skies, Songs
of David, Songs
of the Disciples (Ian Callanan), A
Gospel Line (Gavin Byrne) and Music for the Millenium
(St. Dominic's, Cabra). Recently, Tricia began composing, and
one of her pieces were featured in this years Knockadoon Folk
Liturgy Course.
Ian
Callanan
Ian
Callanan from Cork, now living in Dublin has been composing
music for over 10 years. He is an accomplished composer, arranger,
score editor and workshop leader. Ian's own works are undoubtedly
inspired by Ireland's great musical tradition. Such is the popularity
of his music that it can be heard sung in the many varied languages
throughout Europe. Much of his music has been used for television
and radio broadcasts. Ian has a degree in Music, Philosophy
and Theology from NUI Maynooth. He has travelled throughout
Ireland, Great Britan, Spain and the United States as a concert
performer, workshop speaker, and retreat leader in the areas
of liturgical music, liturgy and prayer. He is a member of the"Knockadoon
Folk Liturgy Course" team, a national liturgical music
course for young people involved in Church Ministry. Currently
he works as a development officer with the Volunteer Centre
Fingal, where he promotes best practice for volunteers as well
as promoting voluntary activity in thr Dublin 15 Area.
During the summer of 1997, Ian produced Winter
Skies - A Celtic Christmas. This is an album of some
new and old Christmas carols, published by Veritas. One of the
songs from this collection with a new arrangement has been recorded
by David Haas, for his collection Star
Child, published by GIA Publications. His latest collection
of music published by Seinn Publications is entitled, Songs
of the Disciples - A Collection of songs based on St
Matthew's Gospel. He is currently working on a collection of
Psalms entitled Songs
of David. He has worked extensively with Liam Lawton
and Gavin Byrne not only giving music workshops but also arranging
their music and doing recordings. Some of these works include
Light the Fire
and Sacred Story by Liam Lawton, and A
Gospel Line by Gavin Byrne.
Ian offers a series of workshops and retreats with a team of
renowned composers and workshop/retreat leaders.
Donal
Sweeney
Donal
Sweeney lives in Drogheda where he is Prior of the Dominican
Community. Donal is active as a conductor, workshop leader and
parish minister. He has been involved in music for over 20 years
and had been Musical Director of Knockadoon for the past 5 years.
Donal was instrumental in establishing the great musical tradition
that exists in Tallaght. He was a founder member of the Tallaght
Choral Society and the Priory Folk Choir. He has also been an
active member of the Irish Church Music Association and is director
of liturgy for the Irish Dominican Province. |
