Sunday 18th September 2005 -
Derrynane 2-10 Fossa
1-09
A under strength Fossa team were
defeated by Derrynane in Round 14 of the County league yesterday
on a score line of 2-10 to 1-9. Fossa who travelled down with
the bare 15 players got off to a disastrous start and found them
selves 2-2 down before Kevin Myers kicked the first score for
Fossa. Two more frees from Myers and a Jimmy Flavey '45 left the
half time score 2-2 to 0-4. Fossa were very unfortunate in the
final minute of the first half when Eoin Long picked up a leg
injury which meant the team had to play the second half with 14
players. However Fossa upped their game in the second half and
added points from Falvey, Myers and Mikey Cronin to narrow the
gap before Derrynane added a few more points. Fossa got the gap
down to 2 points when Kenneth Clifford was taken down in the box
and Kevin Myers drove the resulting penalty high into the right
hand corner. Immediately after this Colin Myers succeeded where
the Derrynane keeper failed when he dived full length to tip a
Derrynane penalty around the post. Derrynane added 4 unanswered
points however before Falvey and Killian Lynch had late
consolation points for Fossa to leave the final score Derryane
2-10 Fossa 1-9. Team and Scorers: Colin Myers, Derry O'Sullivan,
Anthony Wharton, Mark Dennehy, Lorcan Daly, Fintan Coffey, Dan
O'Sullivan, Eoin Long, Mikey Cronin (0-1), Micko Neill, Tommy

Ballydonoghue
2-09 Fossa 0-07
Fossa went down for the first time
this season in the league when a very under strength team were
well beaten by table toppers Ballydonoghue on Saturday evening.
Ballydonoghue took full advantage of a strong breeze in the
first half and lead at half time on a score line of 1-6 to 0-2.
Fossa got off to a good start in the second half when Peter
Shallow and Domhnaill O'Sullivan pointed early on but
Ballydonoghue struck for a second goal to leave the score
Ballydonoghue 2-7 to Fossa 0-4. Fossa added a few consolation
points from Killian Lynch, Kenneth Clifford and Kevin Myers but
Ballydonoghue ran out easy winners on the night. Final Score:
Ballydonoghue 2-9 Fossa 0-7. It must be said that the 16
players, trainer and selectors that travelled to the game were
badly left down by the guys that wouldn't make an effort to turn
up. Next up is Cordal at home next Saturday and a repeat
performance would surly mean Division 5 football for another
season. Team: Colin Myers, Jason O'Brien, Anthony Wharton,

MIkey Cronin, Kenneth Clifford(0-1), Micko Neill, Killian

Cup Rd.1 - Tuesday 14th June 2005 - Fossa 1-14
Gneeveguilla 'B' 1-09 Fossa
defeated Gneeveguilla 'B' in a hard fought first round
O'Sullivan cup tie in Fossa on Tuesday evening. Fossa were quick
off the blocks and Domhnaill O'Sullivan had the ball in the net
within seconds after tearing the Gneeveguilla defence apart.
O'Sullivan and Kevin Myers added points before Gneeveguilla
responded with two points and a goal from the penalty spot
despite the best efforts of Colin Myers. Jason O'Brien and
Domhnaill O Sullivan had further points before Gneeveguilla
tacked on two more. Kevin Myers finished off the half by adding
3 frees to leave the half time score Fossa 1-7 Gneeveguilla 1-4.
Gneeveguilla started well in the second half and narrowed the
gap to the bare minimum but 2 points from Kenneth Clifford and a
free from Myers made the score Fossa 1-10 Gneeveguilla 1-8.
Myers added a further point after good work from O'Sullivan,
before O'Sullivan himself had a fine point off the left
boot. Gneeveguilla rallied well but were unable to find the goal
they needed and a beautiful point from Mikey Cronin and two late
pointed frees from Myers ensured Fossas path to the quarter
finals. Best for Fossa on the night were Derry O'Sullivan and
Frank McCarthy in defence, Conor O'Keefe and Mikey Cronin did
well in Midfield while Domhnaill O'Sullivan was outstanding in
the forwards. Team & Scorers: Colin Myers, John O'Neill, Anthony

Asdee 0-04 Fossa
4-11 Despite the absence of many players
due to exams, injury and holidays, Fossa ran out easy
winners in Asdee on Saturday evening. The game was over as a
contest at half time as Fossa led by 3-05 to 0-02, The goals
coming from Kevin Myers, Donald Sullivan and superb goal
from Mick O'Neill. Donald Sullivan also kicked three points
with the other two points coming from the boot of Kenneth
Clifford. The high light of the second half was when
cornerback Derry O'Sullivan got on the end of a free flowing
move to finish with a rocket to the bottom left hand corner
of the net, for a great goal and his first score of the
season (or two or three)!!. Best for Fossa were John O'Neill
and Frank McCarty in defence, Mikey Cronin and Connor
O'Keefe were always in control of midfield, up front Donald
O'Sullivan ran riot and was ably supported by Kenneth
Clifford, Micko Neill , Mike O'Shea and Jason O'Brien.

Saturday 4th June 2005 -
Fossa 0-11 Ballyduff 1-08 Fossa
staged a great second half come-back to snatch a draw in this
very entertaining game on Saturday evening. Ballyduff lead at
half-time on a scoreline of 1-5 to 0-2, the two points coming
from the boot of Padraig Kelly from frees. Ballyduff's goal
came from the penalty spot, But the Ballyduff forwards were
guiltily of some brutal shooting, kicking 12 wides in the
first half. The second half saw a great Fossa rally with Mikey
Cronin and Donald O'Sullivan gaining control in the two vital
sectors of the field, Every time O'Sullivan got the ball, it
resulted in panic in the Ballyduff defence and hence, Padraig
Kelly ended up scoring seven points from frees!!
Mikey Cronin played a great game at midfield and his
inspirational left foot point started a great comeback.
With 10 minutes to go, Fossa trailed by 4 points, but
two points from "man of the match" Donald O'Sullivan, and two
pointed frees from P Kelly, secure a valuable draw for the
Fossa men. In goal Colin Myers
played well and had hard luck for the penalty, Outside him,
Derry Sullivan and Anthony Wharton were the pick of the backs
while Lorcan Daly, Mark Dennehy and Connor Keefe kept things
tight in the second half. Tommy Cronin at centre back gave a
commanding performance and supported his midfield well, Where
Fintan Coffey was excellent in the second half.
This was a hard earned point and keeps the team
unbeaten in Div 5. The Senior
management would like to wish all the lads doing the leaving
cert all the best for the next few weeks and a big thanks to
those who lined out on Saturday night.
The management would also like to wish Padraig Kelly
good luck on his American travels during the Summer !!

E.K Championship - O'Donoghue Cup 1st
Round - Sat 28th May 2005 - Fossa 0-11 Listry 0-8
Fossa joined the big guns in
the hat for the quarter final draw of the Aquila Club East Kerry
championship - O’Donoghue Cup - following a deserved victory
over their great rivals Listry at Fossa on Saturday evening
last. Fossa had by far the better
start in both halves and though they were relieved to hear the
final whistle at the end there could be no denying the fact that
the better team won. The winners dominated possession in the
vital middle third of the field for long periods, thanks to some
tireless play from the two Cronins, Mickey and Tommy, Fintan
Coffey and Killian Lynch and while they did have their share of
wides, by and large their forwards capitalised on the bulk of
the possession that came their way.
The same could not be said of the Listry attack however, and
some of their efforts at scoring, especially
when totally dominant in the closing stages, had to be seen to
be believed. Indeed this was as poor a display as I have seen
from the Listry men who never looked like they were playing with
any degree of confidence. Fossa as
stated, got off to the perfect start with the impressive Padraig
Kelly pointing in the very first minute and this was followed by
another from Michael O’Neill. Mike Tangney, from a free, opened
Listry’s account in the eighth minute but Domhnall O’Sullivan
with a great score, and Kelly again, gave Fossa a four points to
one lead at the end of the first quarter. Listry would have been
further in arrears were it not for the outstanding defensive
work by Stephen Darmody, but gradually, the men in green began
to see more possession up front. However, the losers had a
number of bad wides, and a few more attacks that ended up in the
grateful arms of Fossa keeper, Colin Myers, before Michael
Tangney and Paul Darmody with a fine effort, reduced the gap to
the minimum approaching the break. Padraig Kelly had the final
say in the half however to give Fossa a two point lead at the
break, five points to three. It was a lead that did not flatter
them in the slightest.Fossa resumed in a very determined
fashion, and had four points on the trot, the first a fine
effort from Domhnall O’Sullivan, before Jimmy O’Leary from a
free responded for Listry. Fossa were in total control at this
stage, and further points from Killian Lynch and Padraig Kelly
gave them a commanding seven points lead at the three quarter
stage. Listry enjoyed more possession as the half progressed as
Fossa relinquished their grip at midfield and with the Darmodys,
Derry Ahern and Jimmy O’Leary upping their game considerably,
Listry went on to totally dominate the remainder of the game.
Points by Derry Ahern and Jimmy O’Leary (two from frees),
reduced the margin to a manageable four points, however, some
woeful shooting and a little bit of bad luck it must be said,
was to cost them a chance of getting into a situation where they
might be in with a chance of stealing the game. They were out of
luck when a cross came back off Fossa keeper Colin Myers only to
be palmed wide by the inrushing Paul O’Donoghue a minute from
time and though Mike Quirke closed the scoring in the final
minute it was a case of too little too late for the Listrymen.
This performance will do Fossa nicely for the moment,
however, sterner tests lay ahead. Team &
Scorers: Colin Myers, Derry O'Sullivan, Anthony Wharton, Lorcan

Novice Championship - Saturday 23rd April 2005 -
Fossa 2-08 Derrynane 1-08
Fossa had a good victory over Derrynane in
the first round of the Novice championship in Fossa on Saturday
evening. In fact, it took a superb second half performance to
ensure victory with the visitors leading by 5 points at the
break on a scoreline of Derryane 1-7 to Fossa 0-5, Fossa's
points coming from Padraig Kelly (4) and Jimmy Falvey (1). Fossa
got off the a flyer in the second half however and quickly
pulled a goal back when Jimmy Falvey was fouled in the box and
he powered the resulting penalty to the bottom left hand corner.
However, Derrynane responded with what turned out to be
their only score in the second half, by pointing a close range
free. Kelly added another point to cut the difference to 2
points but not for the first time this season Fossa kicked wide
after wide in front of goal. Fossa didn't
eventually mange to take the lead when a hopefull ball into the
box broke kindly to Ger Curran who tucked the ball into the
corner of the net to give Fossa a 1 point lead. With time
running out Derrynane pilled on the pressure but found the Fossa
defence too strong on the day. Kelly and Falvey added two
further points to ensure a 3 point victory. Next up is

Co. League Round 4 -
Saturday 16th April 2005 -
Fossa 1-13 Ballylongford 1-09
Fossa had a great victory over Ballylongford
on Saturday evening in the 4th round of the county league.
Fossa got off to a good start and had two excellent points on
the board for Killian Lynch and Karl Foley before Ballylongford
responded with a fine point from Paddy Kelly. With Fossa
dominating the game in all areas they should really have put
Ballylongford away but Jimmy Falvey blasted over from close
range and Domhnaill O'Sullivan riffled the cross bar and over to
lead 4 points to 2. Fossa were unlucky to loose corner
back Derry O'Sullivan with a suspected broken nose midway
through the first half but replacement Shane Malone had a fine
game when introduced. Domhnaill O'Sullivan, Padraig Kelly and
Jimmy Falvey were a constant menace to the Ballylongford defence
and O'Sullivan scored a cracking goal when he planted the ball
in the bottom left hand corner after beating 3 or 4 defenders
and Falvey added a beautiful point for the left boot to leave
the half time score Fossa 1-6 Ballylongford 0-6. Ballylongford
upped their game in the second half and cut the lead to two
points but Fossa responded with some good scores from Kelly and
Domhnaill O'Sullivan in the other end. With Fintan Coffey coming
into to his own at centre back after being sidelined for the
past 2 months with a knee injury, Fossa again seemed to get the
upper hand, but wasted a hatfull of chances on front of goal
which always gave Ballylongford a chance. Ballylongford did
mange to get the deficit down to 3 points with 5 minutes to go
when the scored an excellent goal which gave Myers no
chance in the Fossa goal. With time running out Jimmy Falvey
scored his weekly wonder point from the tightest of angles and
Padraig Kelly ensured a 4 point victory when beating 3 defenders
to tap over. Final Score Fossa 1-13 Ballylongford 1-9. On the
night this was an excellent team performance but Anthony
Wharton, Karl Foley and Fintan Coffey stood out at the back.
Tommy Cronin marshalled Paddy Kelly very well in midfield and
the aforementioned forwards were outstanding. On a bad note
Fossa will more than likely have to do with out Derry O'Sullivan
and Domhnaill O'Sullivan who pulled up with a hamstring problem
towards the end, for the visit of Derrynane next Saturday
evening in the first round of the Novice Championship,
throw in is at 7pm. Team & Scorers: Colin Myers, Derry

Dr. Crokes
B 0-09 Fossa 1-11
Fossa travelled the short distance into
Killarney on Sunday to play Dr. Crokes B in the county league
and came out with a five point win after a tough but
entertaining game. Fossa had an excellent start and Kerry minor
wing forward Jimmy Falvey blasted to the Crokes net after only
30 seconds after some good work from Domhnaill O'Sullivan.
O'Sullivan himself added a point before Crokes responded with
their first point. It was a very tight and evenly contested
first half with the score 1-5 to 5 points at half time.
Domhnaill O'Sullivan(2), Padraig Kelly and Kenneth Clifford
being our other scorers in the first half. Crokes came out all
guns blazing the the second half
and tacked on a
few points but Padraig Kelly with 3 frees and a wonder point
from Jimmy Falvey kept a 3 point difference between the sides.
Crokes did infact get the deficit down to two points and had an
opportunity to take the lead but Mike Coopers low drive went
narrowly wide. From the kick out Fossa broke up field and scored
two consecutive points from Domhnaill O'Sullivan and Kelly to
ensure a 5 point victory. This was a good team performance but
special mention must go to Lorcan Daly at Corner back, Anthony
Wharton at Full back, Conor O'Keeffe in Midfield and Domhnaill
O'Sullivan at Full forward, who were outstanding on the day.. Next game is
against top of the table Ballylongford this weekend. Team &

Stacks B 3-05 Fossa 3-05
Fossa were
lucky to come out of Tralee with a point after and very
lacklustre performance in the County league on Sunday morning.
Indeed Fossa found themselves trailing by 8 point with 15
minutes to go but in the end could have snatched victory with a
last minute free kick. Fossa were very slow to start and found
themselves trailing by 3 points before Kenneth Clifford opened
Fossa's account with a superb point for long range. Shortly
after Micko Neill was at the end of a good Fossa move to punch
the ball into the Stacks net. From the resulting kickout we
should have extended our lead but Domhnaill O'Sullivan's rasping
shot was excellently saved by the Stacks Keeper and Stacks got
themselves a goal from the breakout despite the best efforts of
Derry O'Sullivan and Colin Myers. Micko Neill tagged on a
further Fossa point to leave the half time score Stacks 1-3
Fossa 1-2. Fossa again started the second half poorly and
allowed Stacks take control of the game for the first 15 minutes
by which stage they had a 3-5 to 1-2 lead with our goalkeeper
and full-backs found wanting for two soft goals. However Fossa
didn't throw in the towel and Micko Neill struck for his second
goal after good work form Eoin Long. With the gap down to 5
points Fossa rallied well and points for Kenneth Clifford and
Padraig Kelly had the difference down to 3 with 2 minutes on the
clock. With time running out Eoin Long punted a high ball into
the Stacks square which ended up in the back of the net from
Domhnaill O'Sullivan. It this stage it looked like the game was
all over but Fossa had one last chance to snatch victory but
Eoin Longs, long range free drifted the the left and the referee
blew up for full time. Final Score: Stacks 3-5 Fossa 3-5. Best

A weakened Fossa team lost

of the field for a Fossa team playing with out dangermen
Domhnaill O'Sullivan and Eoin O'Connell from last weeks team
that beat Firies. Kenmare were quick of the blocks and had 5
points on the board before Padraig Kelly responded for Fossa

Fossa got their first win of the season
against Firies on Saturday evening in Fossa in the East Kerry

O'Sullivan kicked 3 points over before Firies opened there
account with a point. O'Sullivan added two more points and
Padraig Kelly Kicked one to leave the half time score Fossa 0-6
Firies 0-2. Firies came out all guns blazing in the start of the
second half and kicked 5 unanswered points to lead for the first
time 0-7 to 0-6. In fact in took Fossa 15 minutes the register
their first score of the second half and it was Ger Curran who
finished to the back of the net after great work from Conor
O'Keeffe and Dan O'Sullivan. This seemed to put abit of life
back in the Fossa team and 2 points from Killian Lynch extended
the lead to 1-8 to 0-7. Firies replied with a point before Ger
Curran struck for his second goal after Domhnaill O'Sullivan had
split the Firies defence. This was a very good victory for the
team but if Firies had brought their shooting boots it would
have been a different outcome. Best for Fossa on the day were

at centre back, the Cronin brothers in Midfield and Domhnaill

Scartaglin 1-08 Fossa 2-04
Fossa got off to a bad start to the year when
defeated by Scartaglin in wet and windy conditions in Scartaglin
on Sunday. Fossa playing against a strong breeze in the first
held Scartaglin to 4 points to 1 with Domhnaill O'Sullivan with
the Fossa point. Playing with a strong breeze in the second half
Fossa should have made more use of it but found it hard to notch
up the scores. We did however take the lead when Padraig Kelly
scored 1-2, Domhnaill O'Sullivan added another goal and Gerard
Curran, making his senior debut, scored a cracking point.
Scartaglin fought back to level however and snatched victory
