- Welcome to STRiKE Software on the Web (since
1996). STRiKE offers extra add-on shareware mission sets for the MacOS,
and PC version, F/A-18 Hornet stable of flightsims by GSC.
-
- Last update: 06 November 2000
-
- GSC has released four different versions and
updates for it's F/A-18 Hornet flight-sim over the years. The latest release,
F/A-18 Korea, featured a mission editor where users could build their own
missions. Before that release users had to be content with a moderate number
of "canned" missions. STRiKE Software saw the demand for more
missions across the releases. From 1996 to early 1999 we released seven
seperate mission sets changing over a hundred of those "canned"
missions.
-
-
- Our STRiKE mission set releases are listed below:
-
- STRIKE! Missions 2.0
: Our first release was designed for Hornet 2.0. Hornet 2.0 was only released
on the MacOS platform by GSC. We souped up the Allied and Enemy aircraft
(more missiles/more aggressive) and added in some realistic effects to
the SAM systems. We added enemies to the Network theatre and changed the
training missions.
-
- STRiKE Korea '97 : Our
second release installed into the official "Korean Crisis" add-on
for Hornet 2.0. Again it was only released on the MacOS platform.
-
- SU-27 STRiKER : The third
major release from STRiKE installed into the F/A-18 Hornet 3.0 version.
This appeared for both the MacOS and PC platforms. In SU-27 STRiKER you
fly the Su-27 Flanker for the IQAAF against the Allies.
-
- STRiKE 3.0 Missions (aka 'Violent Moon') : After the SU-27 STRiKER release we went back to changing
the Allied side of the game. Missions became more complex with sometimes
2 or 3 objectives required.... plus plenty of theatre-wide action across
all the missions. We had released a preview of these missions (placing
the Network missions into the Kuwait area) for registered users. It was
named STRiKE 3.0 LE and it is no longer distributed. You can still read
it's old 'secret' page here.
-
- The TACTiCAL STRiKE sets
: GSC released "Red Flag" which was an extra eight mission set
for Hornet 3.0. We changed that set on two seperate releases turning it
into a strict air-to-air Rules of Engagement training arena and a massive,
and very dark, night-time arena. The Black Planet set has some very random
features built into it. Those two releases are for registered users only.
-
- Mig-21 STRiKEBed : This
release was for Hornet 3.0 as well. It is based on the premise of allowing
the user to fly another aircraft in the sim... this time the Mig-21. The
missions were the same as the ones in SU-27 STRiKER. It is the hardest
of all the sets to complete as the Mig-21 in the sim has a limited chance
against the determined STRiKE AI Hornets. Again it is for registered users.
-
- STRiKE
Liberation : STRiKE misions for F/A-18 Korea
are available on the STRiKE Liberation site. The STRiKE Liberation site
contains missions for registered and non-registered users and looks at
the more technical features of the missiles, AI aggression settings, and
the SAM defenses. The Nevada theatre becomes a hostile offline arena as
you fight F-16s and Tomcats in the small Desert
Kings MacOS release. Registered
MacOS users may need the latest Stuffit Expander to access the password
dialogue on some of the mission sets.
-
- STRiKECat : F/A-18 Korea arrived with the addition of a mission
editor. We decided to try and convert the Hornet to the new Tomcat with
some success. We got as far as a MacOS beta (which works well enough)...
then we put down our tools. The beta is still available for our MacOS registered
users.

-
- If you wish to edit some of the missions in the
earlier Hornet versions (MacOS only) and need some pointers then follow
this
link. I have placed online an old document I wrote in 1997 on editing the first training mission
in Hornet 2.0.
-
- Thanks to all the people at GSC for their support
and encouragement throughout all the releases.
-
- Finally... over the years the STRiKE site colours
have gone from vibrant oranges to blues... now it is mostly grey. Old soldiers
never die... they just fade away.
