Why fur free Galway?Lets face it, the fur trade is pretty barbaric. Allowing this kind of activity to continue for no good reason lessens us as human beings. Many Galway shops stock fur garments and garments with fur trims. We felt that there was a need for a group to mobilise and work towards ending the sale of fur products in Galway and to make Galway a fur free city. What are the aims of the group? To help disseminate information on fur and the fur trade in Ireland. To discourage the purchase and sale of fur garments in Galway. To help make Galway a fur free city. To act as an example to other cities in Ireland. Ultimately we would like to see an end to fur farming and the fur trade in Ireland.I agree. How can I help?Dont buy garments with fur or fur trim. Get informed. Learn how to tell real fur from fake fur. Boycott the shops on our list, learn about the fur trade. Tell your friends what you have learned. Organise an anti fur information stand in your school or place of work. If you are a retailer, dont stock real fur products in your shop. Email us with details if you find a local shop stocking fur products and we will add it to our list if it checks out. Support groups that campaign against fur farming (see our links page). Write a letter to your TD. Come along to our next meeting. How can I tell real fur from fake fur?Usually by the washing instructions, the way the hair parts, the behaviour or smell of the hair fibres when burnt, the resistance of the pelt to a pin (animal leather resists).
