Carmona Macrophylla

Carmona

This big evergreen shrub is a tropical species whose shape is very similar to a tree's. In mild climates it is suitable for indoor bonsai. The majority of the specimens come from southern China. The small leaves and the thick foliage allow to create a bonsai plant by polling and no wiring. In spring and at the beginning of summer the bright dark green foliage is dotted with small flowers, followed by green berries, which get a bright red colour in maturity. Its correct botanic name is Ehretia buxifolia, but the bonsai collectors of the whole world know it as Carmona macrophilla or with the common name of "pseudo tea plant".
