Korean Hornbeam

Korean hornbeam

Korean Hornbeam is very close to European Hornbeam; as a matter of fact the only difference between them is the leave shape and the bark colour. The leaves are small and are supported by thin twigs, the mature bark has a beautiful silver colour. In autumn the tree gets a wonderful red-orange shade.

Exposure
Exposure

Exposure to sunlight improves the autumn colour. However shade the tree in high summer. In winter shelter it from the coldest temperatures (-10 C and over).

Watering
Watering

Everyday, in the vegetative season. In winter water it less frequently, but do not let the soil get dry.

Fertilizing
Fertilizing

Start fertilizing as soon as the buds open. Once a week, during the first month, then every two weeks up to late summer, setting aside the summer months.

Repotting
Repotting

In alternate years, for the first 10 years, then according to the needs: when the roots completely fill the pot. Use universal mould.

Pruning
Pruning

In spring, shorten the new growth to 2-3 leaf buds. Remove the biggest leaves during the whole vegetative season. The best moment to wire it is
just before germination.
