GALTEE GAELS OUT OF INTERMEDIATE
CHAMPIONSHIP
AFTER SPIRITED DISPLAY
GALTEE GAELS 0-9
CROOM 0-10
Galtee Gaels exited the championship last Sunday
week in Kilfinnane. It was a real determined and spirited display
by Galtee Gaels on the day. In a tight match through out Croom came away
with a one point victory. The Gaels were slow out of the blocks and were
3 points down early on but Andrew Breedy got the Gaels off the mark
followed by a free from Mike Jones. John Quane playing in at full
forward then levelled the game. It was a tight scrappy game in the first
half and at half time Galtee Gaels were down 6 points to 3. The 2nd half
was a much better display with quane moving to midfield . Points from
Tommy Noonan, Sean Donavan, Mike Jones and Andrew Breedy brought the game to 7
each. Galtee Gaels had chances of goals also but the croom keeper
brought off two fine saves from Tommy Noonan's efforts. Galtee Gaels
could sense victory but Croom battled back to lead 10 -7 with time running
out. John Quane added another point followed by a Jones 45 and there was 1 in
the difference with time almost up. Quane played a one two with Paul
Moriarty on the wing and John took a shot at the posts to level the match but
one umpire ruled it wide while the other said it was over but the referee said
no and Galtee Gaels hope was gone. It was a reel determined display by
all the players and one that they can be really proud of. Yet again
we have come up short just like last year when we just missed out on the
county semi final. Maybe the experience of the last couple of years will tell
and with a bit of luck a county final spot will be ours next year.
