Last Minute Scores Finally put Gaels Away

Banogue 1-17 Galtee Gaels 1-10

A goal and two points in the last three minutes of this junior league game gave a flattering seven point margin of victory to Banogue over Galtee Gaels on Thursday night in Attlaca. Gaels battled had throughout this game and always kept within touching distance of a well balanced Banogue side that proved very adept at taking their scores whenever an opportunity arose.

It was Banogue who were first out of the blocks and they raced into a three point lead before Gales had their first score through a fisted effort from Brendan Conway. Two quick points followed from Chris Noonan and Diarmud Walsh to even up the scores and this was the first indication that this game was going to be a see-saw battle all the way to the finish. Banogue took back the initiative and hit over four unanswered points before a Timmy Breedy free got Gaels going again. Frank Doyle then rattled the top corner of the net on the turn to score an excellent goal and Niall O’Mahony had a point just before half time to give Gales the lead for the first time. Banogue managed to  pick off one more point to leave the half time scores level at 0-8 to 1-5.

Frank Doyle gave Gaels the lead on resumption but Banogue went on another mini scoring spree and got three points but Doyle and Diarmud Walsh scores levelled things once again. After another Banogue point Brian Mullins had a goal chance but fired over and Banogue followed up with three unanswered points. Chris Noonan was put through on goal and had the chance to even things up but as with the earlier goal chance, the ball was put over the bar to leave two points between the teams entering the last few minutes. It was then that the game finally got put out of Gales reach when the home side got their only goal minutes from the end and two more late points put an un-realistic look on the scoreboard from Gales point of view. Despite defeat in this high scoring and very entertaining game, Gaels still have a chance to qualify for the league final if they can defeat Ballylanders and Stakers in their remaining games.

Wolfe Tones Shannon 0-9 Galee Gaels 1-8

Galtee Gaels, it seems, were the only Limerick men to leave County Clare with a victory last Sunday in this challenge game against Wolfe Tones of Shannon. A flying start by Gaels turned out to have the crucial bearing on the final outcome; they had 1-3 on the board before Shannon registered their first score and the lead was never relinquished. At half time they lead 1-4 to 0-3 and despite Shannon outscoring them in the second period Gaels kept managing to pick off scores at vital times to hold onto the lead.

Gaels hold on to Defeat Ballysteen in Championship

Galtee Gaels   2-6  Askeaton /Ballysteen 0-11

Never was a saying so true that goals win matches than on last Sunday night in Ballyagran when we collected two precious points with a victory over Ballysteen in round two of the Intermediate Championship. Willie Roche opened the scoring with a point which was cancelled out quickly by the opposition .After 9 mins Conor Moriarty converted a free after a foul on Derek Gallahue but this was cancelled out by their impressive no 11.  Conor then kicked a beautiful over the shoulder point on the twentieth minute .A Gaels attack in the twenty fifth minute broke down and the ball was swept up field for a point. This was followed quickly by another a minute later leaving us trailing by a point and struggling .Just before half time Derek Gallahue was fouled in the square and Mike Jones penalty was saved and cleared by the Ballysteen keeper leaving us trailing 0-4 to 0-3.

Half time and a time to to take stock. For the second half Kenneth Lane came in at centre back for Brian Maguire and Eddie O Gorman replaced Sean O Donovan at left half forward .Ballysteen seemed to take up where the left off going into a four point lead. Conor replied with a well judged free and then Andrew Breedy shook the net with a great goal to level the sides against the run of play. Ballysteen tagged on three further points before John Quane won a ball on the twenty one and Eddie O Gorman was on hand to finish it to the net. Gaels supporters would have settled for a draw at this stage against last years beaten Co Finalist but urged by the outstanding play of Davy Moriarty at full a back and John at centre field Andrew Breedy flashed over two more points .Ballysteen pulled one back  in normal time but after four minutes of injury time we held out for a most important victory.

The management will be pleased with the second half effort as in our two previous games against Bruree and Croom we performed poorly in the second half of both games. We now have full points from two games and face South Liberties in the next round in a months time.

Gales and Croom All Square in South Senior

Galtee Gaels 2-4 Croom 2-4

A wet and blustery Friday evening in Kilfinnane was the setting for Galtee Gaels encounter with late arrivals Croom in the South Senior Championship. It took a late goal from Gaels to earn a replay after dominating much of the opening half but allowing Croom to dominate much

of the second. When the game eventually got under way an excellent early goal chance was squandered by Gaels and this handed the initiative over to Croom who got the opening score and this was quickly followed by their second from a free.

Mike Jones opened the scoring for Gaels from a free and Tom Noonan soon levelled the sides with what was an excellent point from play in the conditions. Gales kept the pressure on and a few minutes later Willie Roche caught a high ball among a group of players around the goalmouth, which he laid off to Niall O’Mahony, and he had the simple task of placing the ball past the Croom ‘keeper for Gaels first goal. Jones added his second point to Gaels tally giving Gaels a four point lead at the break 1-03 to 0-02.

If the first half was owned by Galtee Gaels it was Croom who dominated the second and despite Gaels high work rate they still found it hard to ease the pressure on their defence and mount meaningful attacks. Croom in the first 15 minutes of the half had tallied up 2-1 without reply putting them in a very strong position going into the last quarter.

Brian Maguire, attacking from centre back, finally got Gaels off the mark for the second half with a point but Croom quickly replied to restore their one goal lead. With the scoring rates as low as they were only a goal could rescue Gaels at this late stage but that goal soon came… John Quane lofted a high ball into the Croom square and in the battle to make contact; the ball was missed by all including the Croom ‘keeper and the ball bounced to the net. Despite some suspicion of a square ball the referee went against his earlier form and allowed the goal to stand. A late ’45 from Mike Jones which drifted wide proved to be the last action of the match and so both Gaels and Croom remain in the competition.

Gaels Off To A Flyer

Galtee Gaels 1-10 Bruree 0-04

Galtee Gaels got their championship campaign off to a winning start on Saturday night in Kilfinane. Gaels who lined out with a mixture of youth and experience, started very impressively and scored two very good points before Bruree registered their first score. Infact such was Gaels domination in the first have that this was to prove to be Bruree’s only score of the first half. The large wide-open Kilfinane pitch suited the type of game the Gaels chose to play.

John Quane was distributing quality ball to the inside forwards who were kicking some excellent scores. Eddie O Gorman opened the scoring taking a great direct ball from John he turned inside his marker and kicked a long-range point straight between the posts. Another quickly followed this from Tommy Noonan. At the end of the first quarter the Gaels led by 5 points to one. Conor Moriarty who was making his championship debut was very impressive in the corner and contributed 3 points in the first half, 2 from frees. The strong running of Andy Breedy was proving very difficult for Bruee to handle and he scored 2 very good points in the first half. John Quane and Tommy Noonan scored the other 2 points of the first half to leave the Gaels leading 9 points to 1 at half time.

The second half produced a very different performance from the Gaels. Bruree raised their game considerably and with the ever-increasing breeze the Gaels were pushed back into their own half and were finding it hard to create any attacks. The ball coming out defence was not finding it’s target and as a consequence the Gaels defence was under constant pressure and a more capable opponent may have punished the Gael more on the scoreboard. The Gaels however held firm and limited Bruree to just 3 points with just one coming from play. The Gaels did find the back of the Bruree net in the second half with a well taken goal from Derek Gallahue.

This was certainly a game of two halves for the Gaels and it leaves management plenty to ponder upon. The half lines will have to up their work rate if the Gaels hope to progress in the championship.

Two from Two for Gaels Juniors

Blackrock 1-7 Galtee Gaels 2-13

Galtee Gales recorded their second win in the South League by comprehensively defeating Blackrock in Kilfinane on Saturday evening last. After a nervous enough first half, highlighted by missed scoring opportunities and conceding frees, Gaels trailed at half time. Eventually though, they settled, and began to dominate the second period scoring two goals in the final 10 minutes to put the result beyond doubt. Blackrock opened the scoring with a 45 but points from Eddie O’Gorman (0-2) and Joe Mullins gave Gaels the early lead. Another 45 followed by a well taken penalty however quickly put Blackrock back in control. Joe Mullins managed another score before having to retire injured but two more frees from the homeside, with an Eddie O’Gorman point in between, put Blackrock in a strong position coming up to half time. Gaels had struggled to gain clean possession around midfield and Blackrock’s style of tackling was proving difficult to cope with and prevented many flowing passages of play.

Two points just after half-time gave Blackrock a 1-6 to 0-5 lead but the switch of Niall O’Mahony to midfield to partner Timmy Breedy saw them take control of that sector of the field and finally Gaels began to dominate. The introduction of Paul Moriarty and Barry Lane further enhanced their position and four unanswered points, three from Eddie O’Gorman and one from Barry Lane drew Gaels level. Blackrock briefly took the lead with a pointed free but an own goal by a Blackrock defender finally broke their resistance. Barry Lane scrambled a second goal shortly after and this was followed by three excellent points from play, two from Niall O’Mahony and another from Lane closed out the game. After two fine performances in this competition so far Gaels will be feeling confident going into their next game against Galbally.

Team and Scorers: Mike O'Mahony, Andy O'Mahony, Johnny O'Mahony, Jack Doyle, Niall O'Mahony (0-2), Robert Breedy, Colm Moloney, Timmy Breedy, Chris Noonan, Eddie O'Gorman (0-6, 0-4f ), Joe Mullins (0-2), Dairmud Walsh, Des Lane (0-1), Frank Doyle, Brendan Conway

Galtee Gaels 1-5 Adare 1-8

On a dark damp evening and with heavy underfoot conditions senior side, Adare, proved too strong for Galtee Gaels in round two of the county league. In an exciting and closely fought game that Gaels could have got a result from, they were left to look back on some missed chances that could have changed the outcome. Adare got on top early on and had two early points on the board before Tommy Noonan had Gaels opener which was quickly followed by the equaliser from Andrew Breedy. The rest of the first half saw Gaels working very hard in defence to keep Adare and their very strong half-back line at bay and breaking forward whenever the opportunity arose. This resulted in two more points for each side, with Tom O'Mahony and Tommy Noonan getting the home sides scores leaving the half time score 0-4 points each.

The second half began as did the first with Adare getting the opening two points and Andrew Breedy replying with a long range effort. Adare then had their best period of the game scoring 1-1 with the goal coming from their full forward who got in behind Gaels defence to finish to the net. However it was Gaels who began to take control of the game and a brilliantly worked move put Mike Jones through to blast past the Adare keeper and score an excellent goal. Adare responded with a point but it was the home side that were applying all the pressure. Some missed chances from play and from placed balls during this period proved to be Gaels undoing in the end and despite laying siege to the Adare goalmouth in the dying minutes the equalising goal failed to materialise. Despite the defeat Gaels can take a lot  from this performance, the first half work rate and the pressure applied on the Adare defence in the second are encouraging signs for the championship opener against Bruree.

Team and Scorers: Johnny O'Mahony, Des Lane, Richie Fitzgerald, Pakie Cleary, Robert Breedy, Niall O'Mahony, Paul Moriarty, John Quane, Andrew Breedy (0-2), Tom O'Mahony (0-1), Tommy Noonan (0-2), Eddie O'Gorman,  Conor Moriarty, Mike Jones (1-0) Timmy Breedy. Galtee Gaels 1-6 Camogue Rovers 0-7

Last Thursday night in breezy conditions at home in Kilbehenny, Gales junior side faced a highly rated team in Camogue Rovers, this was their first outing this year in which they recorded an outstanding 2 point victory. The game opened well for the Gaels but they found it hard to put scores on the board with Camougue Rovers notching up 4 unanswered points. Gaels however stormed back into the game when a penetrating run through the centre from Timmy Breedy set up Frank Doyle for an expertly taken goal. Willie Roche's high fielding gained a lot of possession for Gaels but they were finding it hard to turn this into scores; playing into a stiff breeze and half time saw Camogue Rovers lead by a single point 0-4 to 1-0.

A pointed free by Eddie O'Gorman levelled the sides shortly after half time and this was followed by a point from Chris Noonan to put Gales ahead for the first time in the game. A single point drew Rovers level but this was followed by some missed frees which didn't aid their cause and points from Willie Roche and Chris Noonan's second extended Gaels lead. Entering the final quarter Rovers came back into the game and kicked two points to draw level but Gaels again took the initiative and a fine run and long range kick from Naill O'Mahony saw him give Gaels the lead. Eddie O'Gorman sealed the victory with a late score to give Gaels a well deserved two point victory following a fine display of open, passing football.

Gaels loose U-21 semi-final.

 Galtee Gaels 0-7  Bruree 1-6

On a bitterly cold Saturday afternoon Galtee Gaels lost the south semi-final to Bruree in Kilfinane. After a bright start Gaels challenged faded and they went over half an hour without scoring. Gaels started well and were on top for the first 20 min but then lost their way and faded out of the game. Conor Moriarty scored Gaels first 4 points and at this stage it looked as if  they were well capable of winning this tie.

As the Gaels faded Bruree started to dominate without ever building a big lead. Mike Mahoney  was playing excellent in goal for the Gaels and kept them in the game. The turning point came when Bruree scored a lucky goal to forge a five point lead and try as they might Gaels could never close the gap. Gaels did finish strongly and scored 3 points without reply but were not playing well enough to win the game and Bruee held on to win by 2 points. This is a young Gaels team and if they stick together there will plenty of success for them in the future

Gaels through to semi-final.

Galtee Gaels 3-7    Croom 1- 2

A much-improved Galtee Gaels U21 team had an easy but impressive win over croom On a very wet Saturday afternoon in kilbeheeny. Despite the poor condition of the Pitch the Gaels moved the ball well and were in control in every area of the pitch The Gaels were on top from the very start and inside the first minute Richard Childs had a great shot saved by the croom keeper but the lively Des Lane smacked the rebound to the net. Croom responded with two points but even at this early stage.

Gaels were starting to dominate the game. Croom stayed in touch until half time and went in trailing by just two points 1-4 to 1-2.The second half saw the Gaels take full control of the game and further goals from Des and Chris Noonan ended the game as a contest The Gaels were now playingvsome very good football considering the conditions. The backs marshalled by Nial o mahony at centre back were keeping any croom treat at bay and infact kept croom scoreless for the second half. The forward line was moving well and they scored  3-5 from play. This was a good performance from the Gaels and best of luck in the semi final.

GALTEE GAELS OUT OF INTERMEDIATE CHAMPIONSHIP

AFTER SPIRITED DISPLAY

GALTEE GAELS 0-9

CROOM 0-10

Galtee Gaels exited the championship last Sunday week in Kilfinnane.  It was a real determined and spirited display by Galtee Gaels on the day.  In a tight match through out Croom came away with a one point victory.  The Gaels were slow out of the blocks and were 3 points down early on  but Andrew Breedy got the Gaels off the mark followed by a free from Mike Jones.  John Quane playing in at full forward then levelled the game.  It was a tight scrappy game in the first half and at half time Galtee Gaels were down 6 points to 3.  The 2nd half was a much better display with quane moving to midfield .  Points from Tommy Noonan, Sean Donavan, Mike Jones and Andrew Breedy brought the game to 7 each.  Galtee Gaels had chances of goals also but the croom keeper brought off two fine saves from Tommy Noonan's efforts.  Galtee Gaels could sense victory but Croom battled back to lead 10 -7 with time running out. John Quane added another point followed by a Jones 45 and there was 1 in the difference with time almost up.  Quane played a one two with Paul Moriarty on the wing and John took a shot at the posts to level the match but one umpire ruled it wide while the other said it was over but the referee said no and Galtee Gaels hope was gone.  It was a reel determined display by all the players and one that they can be really proud of.  Yet again we have come up short just like last year when we just missed out on the county semi final. Maybe the experience of the last couple of years will tell and with a bit of luck a county final spot will be ours next year.

FIRST GAME IN 2005 INTERMEDIATE CHAMPIONSHIP THIS SUNDAY

Sunday is the day Galtee Gaels get there championship hopes for 2005 underway with a game Against Gerald Griffins. Gerald Griffins are down from senior football and will be a tough start for Galtee Gaels.  The Gaels preparations has been good with some fine team displays in the Munster and Limerick Football leagues to date. The management team of Pauidi Gallahue and Joe Mullins and team Trainer Frank O Brian have high hopes for a good start in the campaign.  Last year we were very disappointed just narrowly missing out on  the County semi finals.  So this is the year to put that right by at least getting into the last four.  The Galtee Gales team is young but has been playing very well as a unit and the players hunger and confidence is high going in to this big game.  The match takes place at 2.30pm in Ballyagran on Sunday so come along a cheer the lads to victory.

EASY WIN IN LIMERICK FOOTBALL LEAGUE FOR GALTEE GAELS

GALTEE GAELS 3-14

MILFORD 0-2

Last Tuesday night at O'Mahony park Kilbehenny the intermediate team played there 2nd game in the all county league.  After a draw in our first game Galtee Gaels were looking to get the full points with home advantage.  The Gaels came out of the traps flying with early points coming from Chris Gallahue and Andrew Breedy . Andrew Breedy then scored a lucky goal after good work from Brian Mullins.  Holly coming of a good game against Ardfinnen a couple of days earlier got two points followed by a goal in the 2nd half.  The Galtee Gaels backs were under little presser as the difference of the two teams was plain for the watching crowd to see.  The Galtee Gaels corner forwards of Chris Noonan and Des Lane were putting in great effort and they were rewarded with two points each.  At the break it was Galtee Gaels 1-9 Milford 0-0.  The 2nd half was always going to be hard for the Kilbehenny side to keep the momentum going. The Gaels backs started to see more of the ball in the 2nd half but Niall O Mahony was having a fine game at wing back and was well supported by the Clarey Brothers and Ritchie Fitz.  The Gaels goalkeeper Johnny O Mahony was seeing no action and was moved up field along with Johnny Clarey for the closing 10 mins.  This move ripped rewards straight away with Clarey scoring a wonderful point from an impossible angle. O'Mahony then linked well with Clarey a few mins later and scored a goal which the Milford keeper had no chance of saving.  Jack Doyle who was keeping goal for Galtee Gaels in the last 10 min pulled of a fine diving save tipping the ball onto the crossbar.  Milford got two late points via there sub and the game finished Galtee Gaels 3-14 Milford 0-2.

MINORS LOSE OUT BY NARROWEST OF MARGINS

GALTEE GAELS 3-8

GERALD GRIFFINS 3-9

Last Friday night in Kilbehnny the Minors played there first game in the 12 a side county championship.  Early signs were good for the Gaels with Eddie O Gorman getting an early goal.  The visitors were looking fit and were playing a tidy passing game but didn't create much scoring chances in the opening exchanges.  Conner Moriarty was running and the backs at every opportunity and got the second Gaels score with a nice point. Gerald Griffins sprang into to life with two quick points.  Eddie O Gorman and Conner Moriarty were the men Galtee Gaels looked to for the scores and yet again they obliged with O Gorman with a couple of points and another for Conner Moriarty.  Gerald Griffins reply was fast with 4 points and a dubious goal and suddenly it was game on as they got to grips with the game.  Brendan Conway played in midfield and scored a goal followed by a point from Des Lane. At half time it was 3-4 to 1-6 in favor of the home side.  The 2nd half started very poorly from a Galtee Gales point of view as all the hard work in the opening half was undone by Gerald Griffins as they went on a scoring spree which the Gaels found no answer to.  The visitors scored 2-2 without reply.  Galtee Gaels needed inspiration from somewhere a bit of leadership and it came in the form of a two fine points from Conner Moriarty followed by one from Des Lane. Niall O Mahony at the back made some powerful runs up the field and took on the responsibility in the closing stages.  Eddie O Gorman tapped over a free to reduce the margin to one point with time almost up. One more attack from the Galtee Gaels ended up with a shot hit towards goal but it was kicked of the line by the strong Gerald Griffins defender and the ref blow the full time whistle.

TEAM AND SCORERS: Blain Fitz, Pj Maloney, Niall O Mahony, Chris Mullins, Chris Noonan, John Linahan, Brendan Conway(1-0), Eddie O Gorman(1-3), Des Lane(0-2), Jason O Brian, Conner Moriarty(1-3), Donaca O Hollaran. Sub Used Brendan Childs.

GAELS DEFEAT AHANE

IN COUNTY LEAGUE

GALTEE GAELS 1-7

AHANE 1-4

In a hard fought battle on Tuesday night we gained another two points in the county league with a win against Ahane.  We knew going into the game it was not going to be easy after a heavy defeat against them in last years championship.   It was an even contest in the opening half with Tom O MAhony scoring 1-1 and Joe Mullins with a brace of points in the opening quarter.  The Gaels back lines were under pressure and were giving silly fouls away costing us 2 points and a penalty which was converted.  Padraigh Slattery was showing great bursts of speed on the wing andchipped in with two points followed by one from Tommy Noonan.  At half time we lead 1-6 to 1-2.  In the second half we were under constant pressure at the back but good defending by Ken Lane, Brian Maguire and Johnny O Mahony in the full back line keep the forwards out.  Joe Mullins was playing well at center forward and got our only point of the half after good build up.  In the last ten mins it was all Ahane but the Gaels held out for victory and gained a vital two points in the county league.

SUPER COMEBACK BY GALTEE GAELS EARNS A POINT

Limerick Football Leauge 2003

GALTEE GAELS 2-8

GALBALLY 0-14

On Tuesday night we played the first round of the intermediate football league away to Galbally.  This was a very entertaining game from start to finish in front of a big crowd.  We started off well with M Jones playing at corner forward kicked over the opening point.  Galbally minus some of there senior players settled into the fast pacesed game and kick over some long range points as they soon opened up a lead of five points.  The home side then had a man sent off for an off the ball incident.   Galbally played more of a long direct game compared to us as we were looking to pass the ball throw the middle, but this was not working, because we were losing the ball when it should have been kicked at the posts.  T Noonan playing in midfield with A Breedy, kicked over a point followed by two more from Jones.  At half time we were well behind on a score line of 0-4 to 0-11.  At half time Galtee Gaels brought on W Hollaran and J O'Mahony to freshen things up, J Quane kicked over a fine point followed by one from the boot of J O'Mahony.  We were on top all over the pitch mid way throw the half as the Cleary brothers Johnny and Paki were clearing great ball out of the defense along with D Moriarty.  A long ball into the forward line was won by J O'Mahony who laid off the ball to B Maguire who put it into the net.  Galbally then kicked over a free then F Doyle replied with a fine score. We were only two points down now with ten mins to go. From the kick out Captain A Breedy won the ball and ran at the Galbally back line and fired in a great goal we were now a point up after been eight down at half time. Galbally rallied and got level when M Mahony made a fine save to tip the ball over the bar.  With two mins to go we got a free on the 21 and J Quane put it over.  We thought our comeback was complete until the last kick of the game was a point by the home team.  At half time we would have taken a draw but we felt hard done by at the final whistle as a F Doyle point was waved wide by one of the umpires near the end when it was clearly over the bar.  Team: M Mahony, S Kearney, D Moriarty, P Cleary, J Cleary, J Quane(0-2), B Mullins, A Breedy(1-0), T Noonan(0-1), D Gallahue, B Maguire(1-0), F Doyle(0-1), J Kearney, P Finn, M Jones(0-3). GAELS BEAT KILDORRERY IN A CHALLENGE

GALTEE GAELS 2-9

KILDORRERY 3-4

On Friday night the 11th of April we took on north Cork team Kildorrery in an intermediate friendly in Kilbehenny.  We were short players from the league game vs Galbaaly a few nights before but each player gave as good account of them self’s.  Jimmy Walsh returning to action after been out for almost 2 years kick over 2 points, Frank Doyle scored 3 fine points also.  Johnny O Mahony fired in a Goal just before half time.  At half time in a hard fought game we were level.  In to the second half it was all Galtee Gaels with Joe Kearney , Tom Noonan and Paul Moriarty getting points but the away team got two fast points then a goal to put them a point up heading into the last five minutes until Johnny O Mahony got a second goal to snatch a well deserved victory for Galtee Gaels.

GAELS KNOCKED OUT OF SOUTH SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP

GALTEE GAELS 3-5

CROOM 2-9

Last Friday night we played Croom in the first game of the south senior championship this was a good tester ahead of the start of the intermediate championship next month.  Both teams went into the game minus there county players so it was an even playing field from the start. Groom settled into the game from the very start playing low ball into there full forward line who were full of running.  Our backs were finding it hard going as Croom had a lead of 1-3 to no score after 15 mins of the half gone.  Gaels needed a score quickly and captain Andy Breedy soon provided it with a fine long rang point.  We were now wining the ball around midfield as Tom Noonan sent in a long ball to Derek Gallahue who fisted the ball into the back of the net and soon after the same player fisted another goal.  In a game in which we were been out ran we now lead by a point.  Croom hit back with another point until Tom Noonan put over point on the stroke of half time to give us the lead at the break.   In the second half we were playing against a strong wind so every chance was vital.  Padrigh Slattery kicked over a free for our first score of the half then that man Gallahue scored a point and sealed a hat trick of Goals soon after.  His three goals coming from long balls in that he fisted first time in the air that caught the keeper out.  We now had a four point lead but we let Croom back into the game with a soft goal and a point soon after the scores were now level 3-4 to 2-7 going into the last ten minutes.  Sub Paul Moriarty scored a good point to restore our lead but a mistake from our backline gifted Croom the leveler.  With a minute to go a 45 was conceded and the Croom man with the strong wind at his back put it between the posts and the Gaels were out after a fine footballing performance in a game we should have won.  Team and Scorers: Mike O'Mahony, Sean Kearney, Dave Moriarty, Paki Clarey, William Hollaran, Brian Maguire, Johnny Clarey, Andy Breedy(0-1), Tom Noonan(0-1), Padrigh Slattery(0-1), Jimmy Walsh, Brian Mullins, Frank Doyle, Joe Kearney, Derek Gallahue(3-1). Subs. Willie Roach, Paul Moriarty(0-1), Tom O'Mahony, Johnny O'Mahony, Robby Breedy, Liam Lane.

GAELS FACING UPHILL BATTLE IN CHAMPIONSHIP

GALTEE GAELS 1-8

ASKEATON/BALLYSTEEN 2-10

On last Saturday night we played Askeaton/Ballysteen in the opening round of the Intermediate football championship.  This game was fixed for Ballygran but a late change in venue the game was switched to Croom late Friday night.  A slight wind was blowing in favor of Galtee Gaels in the first half, we had a full panel of 26 players for this game Pat Finn was the only man missing throw injury.  We got the best possible start to the game as a long ball sent in cased confusion in the box and Tommy O Mahony soccer style volleyed the ball into the back of the net inside 2 minutes.  Our opponents soon got to gripes with the game as there center forward was casing problems and creating scores for there lively full forward who scored two quick points.    Derek gallahue scored a nice point and was showing for a lot of ball in at corner forward but the supply was not coming in as the Gales half forward line were finding it hard to get into the game.  John Quane scored a point with a powerful run from center back and a great 45 from Andy Breedy went over the bar.   But that was after Askeaton/Ballysteen had put up another two points throw there center forward who was playing very well and a goal from the full forward after very poor marking by our backs.  Padrigh Slattery scored two points close to half time and our opponents then got another point to leave the half time score 1-5 to 1-5.

SECOND HALF

Galtee Gaels brought on Willie Roche and Paul Moriarty at half time but the changes did not change the pattern of the game as Askeaton/Ballysteen were playing very good football and it was easy to see how they beat Croom in there last game.    They added another three points without reply before Gallahue got one back. Galtee Gaels brought on Timmy Breedy and Johnny O Mahony into the full forward line, Timmy kicked over free straight away but from the kick out Askeaton/Ballysteen scored another goal as the umpires judged the ball to be over the line.  We were now four points down with time running out a long ball into the box by Andy Breedy was won by Johnny O'Mahony who laid the ball off to other sub T Breedy who fisted the ball over the bar it was to be our last score as Askeaton/Ballysteen added another two points just before the final whistle.  This was a very disappointing result for Galtee Gaels after all the effort made by most of the players leading up to this game.  The selectors and trainers will have to think long and hard leading up to our next championship game about some players lack of fitness and ball work if we want to progress any further.  After been level at half time to only getting three points in the second half it was not up to championship standard.  It now looks as if Askeaton/Ballysteen will now make it to the next phase with 2 wins from 2 games but there is still a lot of football to be played and it would be a foolish man to rule any of the teams out of it just yet.  Victory in our next game against Oola is now vital for Galtee Gaels's championship hopes for 2003.

Team and Scorers.  Mike Jones, Sean Kearney, Davey Moriarty, Paki Clarey, William Hollaran, John Quane(0-1), Johnny Clarey, Andy Breedy(c)(0-1), Tom Noonan, Padrigh Slattery(0-2), Brian Maguire, Sean Donavan, Tommy O'Mahony(1-0), Jimmy Walsh, Derek Gallahue(0-2).  Subs. GALTEE GAELS LOSE OUT IN TIGHT BATTLE

INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

GALTEE GAELS 0-5

Oola 1-5

Our re arranged first round game called off two weeks ago was played last Saturday night in Kilmallock.  We went into the game following a defeat the previous week against Askeaton/Ballysteen so a win was a must for our championship hopes.  We were delt a blow before a ball was kicked as John Quane was out injured following a game for Limerick a couple of nights before.  The manager and selectors made 4 changes from the team that started the last game most notable Willie Roche returned at full forward.  It was a tight battle from the start as it took ten minutes for the first score to come throw the Oola half forward. We were finding it hard to break throw the strong Oola team but it was Parick slattery who made the run and placed it over the bar for our first score with twenty mins gone.  Willie Roche was wining great ball and kicked over a nice point shortly after.  Oola were playing some nice short passing football but found it very hard to break throw the half back line in particular Rob Breedy who was having a titanic game in place of John Quane at center back as time and time again he broke up Oola attacks.  With half time close chances by Brian Mullins and Derek Gallahue didn't find the target and Oola drew level just before the whistle.   The second half saw points exchanged as first captain Andy Breedy kicked over a fine point on his left foot, Slattery then kicked over a free to put us two points up.  Oola down from Senior football last year battled back as there full forward caused problems wining good ball got them level with ten minutes to go.  Tom Noonan kicked over a great point close to the sideline and hopes we high that we were going to hold on for victory with five minutes to go.  But disaster struck as a long ball that seemed to be going high and wide hit the up right and landed back to the full forward who put it into the net and gave Jones no chance in the Gaels goal.   All our hard work was gone as the Oola wing forward put the final nail in the coffin with a excellent point at the end.  It now looks as if we are not going to make it throw the group stages as its going to be very hard to come back from two defeats from two games.  But as we still have a mathematical chance of progressing we can not give up as we have six points to play for yet.  Ever player is going to have to give it there best in training as we need a couple of wins at lest to avoid relagation to Junior football which would be a disaster for the whole club.  Team and Scorers:   Mick Jones, Sean Kearney, Davey Moriarty, Paki Cleary, Johnny Cleary, Rob Breedy, Sean Donavan, Andy Breedy(c)(0-1), Tom Noonan(0-1), Parick Slattery(0-2), Joe Kearney, William Hollaran, Brian Mullins, Willie Roche(0-1), Derek Gallahue. Sub:  Timmy Breedy for Brian Mullins. Subs not used: Frank Doyle, Johnny O'Mahony, Jimmy Walsh, Tom O'Mahony, Mike Roche, Paul Moriarty, Brian Maguire.

GAELS LOSE OUT TO COMIGE ROVERS

JUNIOR B FOOTBALL LEAGUE

GALTEE GAELS 0-6

COMIGE ROVERS 2-9

This game was played last Friday night in Kilbehenny against a strong side from Comige Rovers.  This game was a chance to give players from the intermediate panel a run out along with players who wanted to were the Maroon and white again.  We started the game well but we were lacking with our ball passing and fitness as the away side were kicking points at will the half time score was 7 points to 1 in favor of the visitors.  In the second half we played very well with William Boland, Kevin Condon, and Fergal Maloney winning great ball.  The Midfield partnership of Frank Doyle and Timmy Breedy were holding there own as points from Frank, Moss English, Kevin Condon brought the score back.  But Comige Rovers put a lot of shots wide in the second half until two late goals sealed victory.  Ever player gave all they had and each player enjoyed the game.

INTERMEDIATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND 4

GALTEE GAELS 1-7

CROOM 0-13

This game was played in Killmalock last Saturday night.  This was our fourth game of the group stage and we were looking for our first win following defeats in the opening three rounds.  We started off the game well with Tom Noonan and Padraigh Slattery getting points followed by a goal by Derek Gallahue.  Croom had there county players all in action and the battle between John Galvin and Andy breedy in midfield was even till Andy retired before half time with a recurrence of his thigh injury.   Galtee Gaels played very well in the first half and was our best performance of the championship so far.  Croom always replied to our scores and at half time it was 1-5 to 0-8.  In the second half it was very close with croom pulling away with a three point lead till Frank Doyle and Tom Noonan pointed.  Heading into the last ten mins Croom were the more fitter team and pulled ahead with a three point lead and would have been more if not for Mick Jones pulling off one of the finest saves ever seen diving to his right hand side from point blank rang to deny the Croom full forward.  Timmy Breedy came off the bench and played well winning great ball and had the chance to level the game in the dieing mins but his powerful shot was deflected past the post by Crooms goalkeeper Pat Kendrick.  Croom ended up winning the game by three points but Galtee Gaels deserved better after such a fine performance.

GALTEE GAELS WIN THRILLER

TO STAY AN INTERMEDIATE CLUB

GALTEE GAELS 1-10

ST. PATRICK'S 1-6

This game was played last Saturday evening in Hospital.  This was built up as the most important game in the clubs long history as defeat would see us relegated to Junior A football next season.  A large following of Gaels supporters made the journey to give there vocal support.  We were very slow getting out of the blocks as the Limerick city team St. Patrick's took a grip on the game from the start scoring two early points.  Andrew Breedy and John Quane were sending some great ball in to our forward line but the scores were not coming.  Davey Moriarty was rock solid at full back standing up to everything that was throw at him.  Midway throw the half disaster struck as a dangerous ball was sent across the square by the St Patrick's wing forward it looked as do Mike Jones had it covered but the big full forward won it and sent the ball into the back of the net.  The score now read 1-2 to no score.   Padrigh Slattery was winning some great ball at wing forward and got Galtee Gaels off the mark with a fine point followed by one from Derek Gallahue after good work by Rob Breedy.  St Patrick's had a man sent off following a dangerous high tackle on Brian Maguire, it was the life line that we needed going into half time but the city side still managed two more points before the break to lead 1-4 to 0-2 at half time.   At the start of the second half we brought on the great Joe Mullins for his first championship game of the year.  Joe was in to the game from the start winning good ball and laying on scores for Slattery and Gallahue.  Galtee Gaels captain Andrew Breedy was excellent in midfield throw out the game and his effort was rewarded with a goal following a scramble in the box.  We now had a firm grip on the game as each player was determined to win to save the club from relegation Padrigh Slattery playing his best game of the year struck over two more excellent frees.   Galtee Gaels now lead 1-6 to 1-4. John Quane scored a fine point followed by one from the boot of Joe Mullins who was playing his hart out for the club.  Galtee Gaels brought on Willie Roach for the final ten minutes and scored a point from an impossible angle, Gaels now had a cousin of a five point lead.  St Patrick's rallied in the last five minutes and a fumble by Mike Jones gifted a free in front of the posts and a point was converted from the free.  Jones then redeemed himself with a fine block with his leg to deflect the ball over the bar.  The score was now 1-9 to 1-6 with two minutes to go, passion of the ball was vital as Andrew Breedy won the kickout and sent the ball to Joe Mullins and with a touch of class put the ball over the bar with his left foot to seal victory for Galtee Gaels who remain an Intermediate club for next year.   It was a great team effort by all the players on the night as it would have been a complete disaster for the club to be relegated to Junior football.  In a great team effort special praise must be given to individual players Davey Moriarty, Ken Luddy, Andrew Breedy, John Quane, Robby Breedy, Padrigh Slattery, Joe Mullins and Willie Roche for there effort.

GAELS WIN FIRST ROUND OF U21

GALTEE GAELS 3-5

BANOGUE 0-6

Last Sunday we played Banogue in the first round of the U21 Championship in summer like conditions in Ballylanders.  This game was meant to be played in Kilbehenny but due to the fact that our pitch was been sanded we had to concede home advantage.  We started of like a team that was hungry to make up for losing the south final last year.  With in the opening five mins Mike Jones playing in midfield had stamped his authority on the game by putting over a long rang point that got Galtee Gaels on the road. Good play involving Kieran Mullins and Stephen Whelan set up a free for Mike on the 45 his shot dropped in to Johnny O Mahony who tapped down the ball for Paul Moriarty to ram the ball into the back of the net. Sixteen year old Liam Lane playing in at corner forward had the Banogue defence run ragged with his runs as Tom O'Mahony with a precise pass found him on the 13 yard line and with a hard driven shot found the top left corner of the Goal which gave us a 2-1 to a point lead with 10 mins of the first half reaming.  Banogue settled down a got there passing game going but found it hard to break throw our half back line of Halloran ,Cleary and Whelan, but on one occastion they got throw, Mike Mahony pulled off a top drawer save to deny the Banogue full forward. Converted frees from T O'Mahony and M Jones had the Gaels 2-3 to 0-2 up at half time.  After the break one would assume we would run out convincing winners but that was not to be as the Banogue side picked up there game and became more physical got back into the game and put over two fast points put them within five points .  With a quarter of an hour to go it seemed that we were gone to sleep as the Banogue side kept the pressure up and yet again S Lane, B Lane, and K Mullins came to the rescue and Mike Mahony with another super save.  Jones with another well taken point got our first score of the half with 10 min to go then Liam Lane blasted another goal.  Banogue then scored another 2 points until Johnny O Mahony got the final score of the game and sealed victory.  It was a good footballing performance by the team but we have to learn to kill off teams while we are ahead. Team and Scores. Mike Mahony, S Lane, B Lane, K Mullins, W Halloran, J Cleary, S Whelan, M Jones(0-3), D Gallahue, T O'Mahony(0-1), F Doyle, P Moriarty(1-0), J O'Mahony(0-1), R Fitz, L Lane(2-0).Subs D Walsh, A O'Mahony.

MAGNIFICENT PERFORMANCE BY  UNDER 21 TEAM

GALTEE GAELS 4-15

BLACKROCK 2-3

On last sat evening we played the second round of the U21 Championship away to Blackrock in Kilfinane.  Going into the game we knew that we would have a physically hard battle ahead of us.  In the opening few minutes we struggled to get into the game as Blackrock got off to a great start when there full forward won the ball on the 13 yard line and powered a shot into the net and a point soon after.    Galtee Gaels had to respond as a long high ball was sent into Johnny O Mahony playing at corner forward who caught the ball in mid air and was one on one with the keeper until the Blackrock corner back pulled him down for a penalty. Mike Jones steeped up and put the keeper the wrong way and placed the ball into the bottom right corner of the net. That goal settled the Gaels down as captain Frank Doyle playing at center forward kicked over two fine points followed by a free from M Jones.  The Kilfinane men made a quick break up the field and sent in a long ball into there full forward line that caught out the Gaels backs as the corner forward unmarked put the ball into the open net.  Mike Mahony was called into action soon after to make a super diving save to deny another goal.  With 15 minutes of the half left our full forward line were well on top as high balls in to R Fitz and J O'Mahony were creating scores for T O'Mahony, P Moriarty, and W Hollaran. Mike Jones playing very well in midfield alongwith Derek Gallahue ran throw the Blackrock half back line and set up Liam Lane with the simple task of putting the ball into the net.  With a few minutes to go until half time R Fitz scored a wonderful point followed by another by J O'Mahony and a free by M Jones left the half time score 2-9 to 2-2.  Blackrock started the second half well but were denied scoring chances by K Mullins J Clarey and B Lane who were well on top of there men as a break up the field saw L Lane send in a dangerous ball into J O'Mahony who first time fisted the ball into the net and Galtee Gaels were well clear. We were really playing good football mid way throw the half as Gallahue,Hollaran, and Jones kick over some great points. Any pressure Blackrock put on the backs was cleared as we were well on top.  Two 45 yard kicks were put between the posts by Jones followed by a point by Moriarty. The home got there first score of the half near full time until a fine Goal by that man L Lane sealed the win for Galtee Gaels.    It was a wonderful win for everybody involved with the team and a fine display of football.  Pity we hadn't more support at the game to witness it. Team and Scorers: M Mahony, S Lane, B Lane, K Mullins, S Whelan, J Clarey, W Hollaran(0-2), M Jones(1-5), D Gallahue(0-1), T O'Mahony(0-1), F Doyle(0-2), P Moriarty(0-2), L Lane (2-0), R Fitz(0-1), J O'Mahony(1-1) Subs T Kelly for S Lane, A O'Mahony for S Whelan.

HEROIC PERFORMANCE BY GALTEE GAELS

WINS SOUTH U21 FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

GALTEE GAELS 1-11

HOSPITAL 1-6

On Saturday the 19th of April we made the short journey to Galbally to play Hospital in the south U21 B football final. It was a cold windy evening with the Galbally pitch in excellent condition due to the fact the home team played the A final before us, a large amount of supports came to witness if we could end the 11 year drought since the last U21 south win in 1992 and also the wins of 88 and 89.  Galtee Gaels struggled to get into the game in the early stages playing against a strong wind and a more physical Hospital team creating scoring chances through there big center forward they soon took a 2 point lead.  Mike Jones and Derek Gallahue in midfield soon got to grips with the tactics of the Hospital team who were more interested in playing the man rather than the ball.  M Jones got our first score of  match with a curling long rang point that lifted the team, soon after it was all one way traffic.  With our full back line of S Lane, B Lane, and K Mullins holding out strong and clearing great ball out of defense finding the energetic W Hollaran on the wing who sent a ball down the field to Jones and with a cross field pass into Johnny O Mahony who turned a drove the ball into the back of the net.    The large crowd went wild as they saw the opportunity of taking a good lead into half time, and then captain Frank Doyle with a fabulous soccer style kick raised another white flag.  With half time close Johnny Cleary suffered a injury but would not leave the battle and moved in full back were he put in a titanic performance.  Paul Moriarty playing at wing forward was running at the Hospital back line at every opportunity he got and put over another point which could have easily been a goal if he had not lost his boot on the run in.  At half time the score was Galtee Gaels 1-3 Hospital 0-4.

Second Half

Hospital opened the scoring in the second half but that was as good as it got as there after could not compete with the attacking play and tackling of Galtee Gaels who had the bit between there teeth and pressed home every chance they got.  Derek Gallahue with a run from midfield kicked over a great point followed by a two by Moriarty.  We now had a four point lead as the Hospital Heads were dropping, great work by W Hollaran, S Whelan and B Lane were stopping the attacks into there full Forward line.  Richie Fitz was giving the Hospital full back problems as he was winning great ball and set up scores for T O'Mahony and Paul Moriarty who now had a tally of five points at this late stage.  We now had a lead of 1-9 to 0-6 with five mins to go.  With Jones putting in a great performance through out, he then converted a free won by L Lane followed by a 45 Galtee Gaels were not to be beaten as the 11 year wait was almost over.  Johnny Cleary with a neck injury was replaced by A O'Mahony for the last few minutes when Hospital with a quick free scored a late goal.  Mike O'Mahony kicked out the ball and the final whistle was blown which saw wonderful scenes of celebration from players, managers and supporters as Galtee Gaels were crowned South U21 B Football champions. Captain Frank Doyle accepted the Liam Lynch South Cup and delivered what can only be described as an unprepared speech thanked the mentors Dan McCarty, Paudi Gallahue and Phil Quirk for there hard work in preparing the team since late January. Frank also thanked the players and supporters and gave 3 cheers for the losing team Hospital.  On a day when every player gave everything it would not be fair to pick out individual players for man of the match awards.   This was a wonderful moment for Galtee Gaels G.A.A club as another piece a history was added. Team and Scorers: Mike O'Mahony, Sean Lane, Barry Lane, Kieran Mullins, William Holloran, Johnny Cleary, Steven Whelan, Mike Jones(0-3), Derek Gallahue(0-1), Tom O'Mahony(0-1), Frank Doyle(c)(0-1), Paul Moriarty(0-5), Liam Lane, Richie Fitz, Johnny O'Mahony(1-0). Subs: Andy O Mahony, Tom Kelly, Diarmard Walsh. Manager Paudi Gallahue, Trainer Dan McCarty, Selector Phil Quirk.

UNDER 21 TEAM BROUGHT BACK DOWN TO EARTH IN COUNTY QUARTER FINAL

GALTEE GAELS 1-5

MOUNT COLLINS 2-16

Just three days after the south final we played the county quarter final in Feeney against west runners up Mt Collins.  We went into the game full of confidence but right from the start we never got into the game.  A number of reasons could be given to why we played so badly but we have to hold our hands up and say we were out ran buy a more fitter team who were not suffering from celebrations from the weekend before.  Scoring opportunities were few and far between as Mt Collins were putting scores over at ease.  We came back into the game mid way throw the second have as a penalty was converted but Mt Collins put together 2-5 in the last eight minutes of the put the game out of reach.  So the under 21 campaign is over for another year but it was a successful year as the south championship was won for the first time in 11 years.

MAGNIFICENT PERFORMANCE BY

UNDER 21 TEAM

PITCH MAINTENANCE

Over the last week the pitch in Kilbehenny has been heavily sanded so that in the future there will be no access water on it .  The sand has been spiked down throw it and in time the pitch will be be able to play more games with less permanent damage to it.

MINORS KNOCKED OUT OF LEAGUE

GALTEE GAELS 1-8

EFFIN 3-5

Last Sunday evening the minor team played the second round of the league at home to Effin with a win needed by both teams to stay in the competion.  the away side settled in to the game from the start with quick deliveries into the forward line they had put together a tally of 2-1 to no score inside 20 mins.  Galtee Gales would have been a lot more behind if it was not for our keeper Donel Coakley making 3 fine saves in the first half keeping the gales in the game.  In one of few attacks in the first half a individual Goal by Liam Lane brought us back into the game and points from D McNamara and S Cahill got the score back to 1-2 to 2-3 at half time.  In the 2nd half Galtee Gaels dominated from midfield thanks to Mike Mahony Paul Moriarty and Derek Gallahue creating chances for McNamara and Cahill who converted points at ease.  But our back line was slow to react to the long fast balls Effin were putting into there full forward which saw the away team adding another goal and 2 points putting them out of reach.  A late rally of points from Paul Moriarty and Steven Cahill was not enough and the Gaels were beat a put out of the league on a score line of 1-8 to 3-5. The Minors will not play again until after the exams and a much bigger effort is needed in training buy some players if we are to win anything this season.

MINOR TEAM START CHAMPIONSHIP WITH GREAT WIN

GALTEE GAELS 1-9

BLACKROCK 1-7

This game was played in Kilbehenny last Tuesday night in very bad conditions.  Playing with the wind in the first half we found it hard to get into the game even do captain Mike O'Mahony playing out of position in midfield scored a great point in the opening five minutes.  The blackrock team were very physical throw out the game concentrating on playing the man rather than the ball but that did not stop them opening up a lead of three points midway throw the half.  Galtee Gaels settled into the game soon after with Paul Moriarty Mike O'Mahony and Derek Gallahue dominating around midfield, frees from Eddie Gorman and Stephen Cahill reduced the scrocline to one point.   A Long ball from the wing which dropped into the Blackrock Goalkeepers hands who then decided to go on a solo run upfield but great tackling by Chris Noonan won back the ball for Eddie Gorman to lob the ball into the net from 25 yards.  Chris Noonan was fighting for every ball inside at corner forward and got his reward wit a excellent point until a lucky Goal from the Visitors which rebounded from the crossbar and gave goalkeeper Donal Coakley no chance with the follow up.  The half time score was 1-4 to 1-3 in favor of Galtee Gaels.  In the second half in was mostly all Galtee Gaels with our full back line of Jamie Whelan, Pa Casey, and Andy O'Mahony playing well and with Dee McNamara and Dee Walsh coming into the game getting a point each to stretch the lead.   Blacrock had a man sent of midway throw the half for striking out but that did not stop them from getting two points without reply until D Gallahue and D Walsh got another one each.  Ritchie fitz was playing well at full forward and was in hard luck for a couple of goals as well as C Noonan but the away team hit two frees over the bar to reduice the scoreline to one point with five min left.  We were now under pressere but E Gorman converted a free with time almost up.  Blackrock made one more attack as the full forward was fouled just outside the box Galtee Gaels had six men on the line as the Blackrock man went for goal from the free but a great save by Donal Coakley saved the day and won the match for Galtee Gaels as the ref blow the whistle for full time.  This was an excellent win and well deserved we now have to play Bruee and Effin were one win will see us progress from the groupe stage.

SOUTH MINOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL

GALTEE GAELS 2-5

CROOM 3-10

This match was played in Bruff last Tuesday Aug 12th.  We went into the game without our captain Mike O Mahony and following a defeat against them a week earlier  we knew what we were up against.  Croom started well and had a lead of five points inside ten mins till Eddie Gorman and Steven Cahill converted frees.   Croom were playing very phycal football which did not suit our players but heading for half time a Chris Noonan goal gave us hope as the half time score was 1-4 to 1-6 in favor of Croom.  In the second half Galtee Gaels found it hard going as the ball seemed to be camped in our backline.  Croom kicked some fine points in a spell of domance in the opening fifteen mins of the second half.  We had no such look in front of goal as chances was few and far between as Croom then scored two more goals to kill the game off.  A late goal by Steven Cahill was only a concelstion for us as Croom were more stronger and fitter then us.

TEAM Donal Coakley, Andy O mahony, Richie Fitz, Chris Mullins, Colm Maloney, Pa Casey, Tom Kelly, Dereck Gallahue, Paul Moriarty, Steven Cahill, Dermerd McNamara, Eddie Gorman, Chris Noonan, Dermerd Walsh, Liam Lane.  Subs: Justin Hayes, Niall O Mahony, Des Lane.

MINOR COUNTY QUARTER FINAL

GALTEE GAELS 1-7

ST SEANENS 5-10

This game was played in Ballygran last Friday night against the west championship winners St Seanens.  We knew going into the game it would be a big test for us as this would be a strong footballing team.  We started this game slow as it took ten mins to get our momentum going but when we did we provided that we meant business following the our defeat in the South final a couple of nights before.  St Seanens scored some fine points then a dubious penalty which was scored on the rebound after Donal Coakley made a fine save.  Points by Derek Gallahue and Paul Moriarty gave us hope followed by Gorman and Walsh at half time we were well in the game with the score  0-6 to 1-6.   In the opening 15 mins of the second half our chances faded away as the west champions struck 3 goal inside five mins, we never recovered from it and our championship hopes were over for the year.   Liam Lane scored a great goal in the dieing mins to put a better look on the score .  The minor team had a great run this year with championship wins over Blackrock and Bruee and getting to a south final and county quarter it was a great effort with such a small panel of players.

TEAM: Donal Coakley,  Andy O mahony, Richie Fitz, Chris Mullins, Colm Maloney, Pa Casey, Liam Lane, Dereck Gallahue, Paul Moriarty, Steven Cahill, Dermerd McNamara, Eddie Gorman, Chris Noonan, Dermerd Walsh, Des Lane.  Subs: Justin Hayes, Niall O Mahony, Jamie Whelan.
