St. Joseph's Community College is a co-educational second level school within the County Clare V.E.C. system. St. Joseph's Community College is a result of the amalgamation of Kilkee Vocational School and St. Joseph's Mercy Secondary School. In the mid eighties Department officials, suggested an amalgamation of St. Joseph's Mercy Secondary School with the Vocational School. At local level both teachers and parents discussed the proposition. Finally, in 1990, it was agreed to unite the two schools under the auspices of the Clare Vocational Education Committee. Three years later the students of St. Joseph's Secondary School transferred to the new complex on the Carrigaholt Road, now known as St. Joseph's Community College. The new name represents a true fusion of centers of excellence, academic and vocational as well as spirit and ethos. As a school we work for academic and vocational excellence but we see the development of the whole person as an integral part of the maturation process. This is echoed in the Motto of the College which is "School and Community - a Partnership for Progress". |
