We have a big enclosed garden and there is lots of secure car parking on-site. The name of the house ‘Gleannaglas’ is derived from the Irish (Gaelic) language, in which ‘gleanna’ means ‘glens’ and ‘glas’ means ‘green’. Gleannaglas is the original name of the immediate area and our Lodge was the gate lodge to a nearby period house. The cottage is in a scenic rural location with great walking routes in the rural countryside. Bustling country towns, steeped in tradition and character, such as Roscrea, Birr, Portlaoise are only a short drive from Gleannaglas Lodge. There are castles nearby in Birr, Ballaghmore and Kinnity, and period houses of architectural such as Emo Court and Roundwood House, just two miles from Gleannaglas Lodge. The latter has a restaurant of considerable renown. A wide range of music can be found locally, and the area is a centre for set-dancing. The area has a very vibrant Irish traditional culture which strongly influences a peaceful and friendly way of life.
