GLENCORRIB CHURCH
Immaculate Conception
In 1850 George Ousley Higgins, M.P. for Mayo, purchased from the Encumbered Estates Court the Glencorrib estate of Robert Dillon Browne. In 1873 he commenced the building of a church on that estate. Up until that time, Mass was celebrated in the old Franciscan church at Kilroe, which was abandoned by the Friars in 1841.
George Ousley Higgins died at his London residence on the 8th May 1874. He left his Glencorrib estate and a considerable fortune to his sister Margaret, who was a nun in the Sisters of Charity, St. Vincent's Convent, Cork. Margaret completed and paid for the church.
It was dedicated on the 8th May 1875. Fr. John Goode was the parish priest at the time. The church was extended and renovated in 1944 by Fr. H. Feeney. A bell was presented by John Harte of Mounthenry, Glencorrib and a new belfry was built in 1963 to house it.

A shrine to the blessed Virgin was erected to celibrate the year 2000 .
