'TIME
OUT'
- BROOM 42cl |
|
The
Motor Cruiser of the Year Award, achieved by the Broom
38, recognised the breakthrough in design by Broom in
providing a good fast cruising sea-boat.
With
the capability of speeds up to 28 knots and cruising speed
well in excess of 20 knots, the 42 is a truly serious
cruising boat, with the excellent handling qualities,
comfort and superb finish upon which Brooms have built
their reputation |
|
1.
Aft master cabin
The aft cabin is a Broom speciality
and the 42cl takes this concept a stage further. There
is a large double berth, spacious wardrobes, ample drawer
space and full headroom. Transom mounted windows give
plenty of light and also provide a means for escape, as
required by the latest European safety standards.
|
2.
Aft en-suite
Complete with sea toilet, moulded
washbasin and vanity unit with a cupboard and mirror.
There is a mixer tap for hot and cold water, a 240-volt
shaving point, towel rail, toilet paper holder, as well
as a toothbrush and glass holder. An opening window provides
natural light and ventilation.
|
3.
Aft hallway
The aft hallway gives access to
owner's aft master cabin and also provides separate and
private access to the shower room on the port side. There
is also additional hanging space for wet weather gear
and general storage, conveniently located on the starboard
side. |
4.
Shower room
This is a separate space with
hot and cold shower mixer tap. Features include a moulded-in
seat and all easy clean surfaces.
|
5.
Forward guest cabin
The forward guest cabin comprises
twin 'V' berths with upholstered headboards and hull linings,
a wardrobe, a mirror, drawers and shelves. There are also
roof and individual reading lights, as well as a ventilation/escape
hatch in roof and opening windows. |
6.
Forward toilet
The forward toilet is well appointed
with sea toilet, moulded in washbasin and vanity unit
with mixer tap. There is a 240-volt shaver point, mirror,
towel rail and toilet paper holder, as well as toothbrush
and glass holder. An opening window and fixed ventilator
are fitted as standard. |
7.
Dinette
Separate dining area adjacent
and on the same level as the galley. The table lowers
to make additional berth. There is additional space for
storage under the seats and a large shelf runs full length
behind the curved backrest. |
8.
Galley
The essential part of any serious
cruising boat. Broom have condensed many years of experience
and developed a practical and attractive work area. The
galley is complete with stainless steel sink unit with
hot and cold mixer tap. There is a three-burner hob unit
with oven and grill, cutlery drawer, cupboards, electric
refrigerator, as well as an opening window and ventilator.
|
9.
Deck Saloon
This is the centrepiece and heart
of the 42CL and makes for a spacious deck saloon accessed
either by steps from the aft deck or by sliding door on
the port side. There is a large 'U' shaped settee to starboard,
designed to provide very comfortable seating and an occasional
extra berth. Opposite the settee is an attractive sideboard
with cabinets, and T.V. The saloon has all round toughened
tinted glass windows in aluminium frames, which provide
plenty of light and makes for a comfortable living area.

Deck
design
The deck layout has been designed
with the highest aesthetic and ergonomic considerations.
The 42cl is practical and manoeuvrable when passing through
locks or low bridges and comfortable and safe offshore.
The side decks encompass the vessel - with no steps -
and incorporates a non-slip surface. The aft deck area
has a door for the security of children and pets. There
is a large seating area with table. |
Console
and instrument panel
A large well-laid out console,
for simple monitoring the engine systems and navigation
equipment. There is a chart table with a clear cover over
and provision for a lockable space to secure the navigation
equipment. The helm and navigator seats are well protected
from the elements by a large curved windscreen and easy
to operate two-part hood. |
