Laurence Conlon

CONLON, Assistant Cook, LAURENCE, S.S. Empire Mica (Middlesbrough). Merchant Navy. 29th June 1942. Age 17. Son of Lawrence and Elizabeth Conlon, of Belfast, Northern Ireland.

This photo of Laurence was taken just two or three years before his death. Before he joined the merchant navy, Laurence worked for a butcher, hence he is wearing his butchers apron.

His mother never believed that he died, and a place was always laid at the dinner table for him, just in case he came home, but sadly, he never did.
