Ingredients
300ml/1½ pts water
4oz / 110g demerara sugar
(brown)
4 whole cloves
½ tsp. cinnamon
2 lemons thinly sliced
1 bottle burgundy, or claret
1 orange, thinly sliced, to decorate
Method
Add the sugar, cloves and cinnamon to the water and heat until the sugar has dissolved, Then bring to the boil. Add the lemon slices, stir and leave to stand for around 10 minutes. Pour in the wine. Heat, But do NOT boil. Strain through a sieve lined with kitchen paper, into a serving bowl. Serve hot, decorated with orange slices
