Another possible reason is the relations that he had with their tenants . Major Charles recalls how they always were on good terms with their tenants. This stands to reason when we see how despite having unionist sympathies, Charles William Hamilton and his descendants were always eager to seek a solution to the landlord-tenant problem. As land agents they witnessed these problems at work and thus they were in a position to see the broader picture and so anticipate problems in their own estate.
