Jim Hyland's cottage

There are not many thatched cottages left on The Heath today. This one, right across the road from the school, is owned by Jim Hyland.

Our new Post Office

This used to be our new Post Office. The old one (situated near The Wheel Inn on the Dublin Road) was demolished to make way for the motorway which was officially opened in May 1997. Mr Michael Kelly was in charge of the new Post Office but it was closed down in 2003 and a lot of people on the Heath were very angry.

Treacy's shop

In the 1880's, Ballydavis House, known locally as 'The Slate', was a pub owned by Mr P. A. Meehan M.P. He sold it to the Dunne family in the 1920's. Today, it is a shop owned by the Treacy family. We buy sweets there before and after school. Ballydavis is the name of the townland in which the house is situated. It gets its name from Baile Daibhí which means 'David's town or townland'. In 1477, Daithí O'Moore was slain by MacPierce Butler and Art O'Connor in a battle here.
