Original Hedgerow, leg 2.

Fog and sub-zero all day.

Ivy is a bit unusual in that it flowers much later in the year. That makes it a valuable nectar resource for many late insects. The development of the flowers from bud through to fruit takes weeks and it's worth documenting the whole cycle.

The buds (left) split to reveal the yellow-green flowers.

Fertilised flowers remain yellow then turn a rusty brown. The sepals fall off at around the same time.

Note that the flowers have a 5-fold structure. This can be seen clearly in the ripe fruit.
