Beltany excursion.

 

Frequent heavy showers, as you will see.

Dr. Brian Lacey giving his perspective on the Beltany circle.

As you can see, Donegal showed our visitors its best weather. This was a dryer spell.

Meanwhile, I was busy photographing lichens on the stones:

Ochrolechia parella, and a close-up of the fruiting bodies.

    

Pertusaria (pseudo)corallina (left) and Candelariella vitellina (right).

    

Rhizocarpon geographicum on the left. The pink specimen is Marchandiomyces corallinus - a parasitic fungus - on Parmelia saxatilis.

    

A recently-discovered alignment in the stones. The hill in the background is Croaghan - a major neolithic burial site.
